In the 1920 US Federal Census for Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas, 28-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Thell and his 24-year-old Arkansas-born wife May [sic] [McCaslin] Daugherty have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 4-year 5-month old Mabel F and 7-month old George. Thell owns the land he on which is is doing "general farming" but with a mortgage. Thell and May can read, write and speak English. Thell's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Tennessee; May's and the children's parents were born in Arkansas.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Van Buren, Crawford, Arkansas, 38-year-old Arkansas-born Thel [sic] and his 34-year-old Arkansas-born wife May [sic] [McCaslin] Daugherty were married when he was 22- and she was 19-years old. They have in their household their Arkansas-born sons, 10-year-old George L, 9-year-old Ray, 6-year-old Carl and 11-month old Bobby Gene. George, Ray and Carl have attended school in the past year. Thell, May and George can read, write and speak English. The family is living on a farm that Thell owns. They do not have a radio. Thell is a truck farmer and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Thell's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Tennessee; May's and the children's parents were born in Arkansas.

Living next door is Thell and May's oldest child, 14-year-old Arkansas-born Fay [sic] [Daugherty] Pounds, who married 19-year-old Odell Pounds within the past year as he was 19- and she was 14- at the time of their marriage. Odell and Fay are living in a rented house for which Odell pays $2 a month. Odell is doing "general farming" on rented land. He has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day and has not served in the military. Both can read, write and speak English. Odell's and Fay's parents were born in Arkansas.

The family is living in a home on a farm worth $300, where they were living in 1935. Thell, May, George, Ray and Carl have all completed eighth grade. Bobbly has completed fifth grade. Richard has not attended school. Thell is a farm laborer, has worked 40 hours in the past week and 40 weeks in the past year. He has not earned a wage or salary, but has other income. George Lucas Daugherty, 86, of Van Buren, Arkansas died Monday October 17, 2005, in a local hospital. He was an employee of DeSoto Furniture Manufacturing for 38 years, a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, an Army veteran of World War II and the widower of Regeta Daugherty.

Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Kibler.

He is survived by two daughters, a son, three brothers, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
