As a boy, Peter learned the wagon maker's trade and when he was 18, he came to Johnson County and estalished a Wagon shop at Bud, IN. He helped erect the first modern building in Franklin located on the Axt corner at Jefferson and West Court streets. He put on weather boarding, the first ever seen in Franklin. Later he bought a farm in the Chapel neighborhood.

In October 1848, Isaac Henry Vandivier was born to Peter and Elizabeth Vandivier, who possibly may have been Peter's cousin. Elizabeth passed away in 1849/50. (Their son, Isaac Henry, married Clara Jane Crist and passed away June 23, 1902 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co. Ind.)

Peter married Lucy Ann Cole on March 13, 1851 in Johnson County, IN.

Years later he married Sarah Jane Linton Slack on Sept. 7, 1898 in Johnson County. Sarah later married Jacob Adelbert Peck on Feb. 6, 1917 in Johnson County, IN.

Local newspaper in Franklin Funeral of Peter P. Vandivier

The funeral of the late Peter P. Vandivier was held this morning at 11 o'clock at the First Mt Pleasant church. It was one of the largest funerals held recently at that church. The services were conducted by the Rev. Willis M. Cunningham of Indianapolis, who received Mr. Vandivier into the church eighteen years ago while holding a meeting at chapel.

The songs used at the service were sung by the Vandivier quartette. Burial was in the church cemetery, the casket bearers being Howard Clark, Morley Taylor, Lozier Vandivier, Cecil Ragsdale, Walter Buskner and Peter Taylor. The A. M. Ragsdale motor funeral car was used to convey the body from the home to the church.
