In the 1900 US Federal Census for Lee, Garland, Arkansas, 46-year-old Tennessee-born farmer Lean [sic William Leander] and his 37-year-old Arkansas-born wife Amanda [McDowell] Brownhave been married 21-years and have had eleven children, all are living. These Arkansas-born children are 19-year-old Rosa, 18-year-old farm laborer Clem, 17-year-old Nora, 14-year-old Lula, 13-year-old farm laborer William, 10-year-old farm laborer Rosco, 8-year-old Lizzie, 7-year-old Floyd, 6-year-old Lottie, 4-year ol Mauddie, and one-year-old Irving. William Leander, Amanda, Rosa, Clem, Nora, Lula, William and Rosco can read, write and speak English. Rosa, Clem, Nora, Lula, William and Rosco have attended school four months of the past year. William Leander owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage.
