Indiana McCaslins

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Henryetta, Okmulgee, Oklahoma, 40-year-old Texas-born Robert and his 30-year-old Oklahoma-born wife Althea [Johnson Moehle] McCaslin were married for the first time when he was 34- and she was 23-years old. This is Robert's first marriage, bur Althea's second. [Her first was to Adolph Moehle]. They have in their household Althea's 9-year-old Oklahoma-born son by her first husband, Herman Moehle recorded as Herman McCaslin, and their two Oklahoma-born sons, 5-year-old Monroe and one-year one-month old W. H, [William Henry]. The family is living in a rented house for which Robert pays $7 a month in rent. Herman has attended school in the past year. Robert is a barber and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has served in the military in WWI. Robert's parents were born in Arkansas [sic]; Althea's father was forn in Missouri, and her mother in Texas; the children's father was born in Texas and their mother in Oklahoma [sic].

From the Amarillo Daily News, Morning edition, Amarillo, Potter, Texas, 25 Jun 1943, page 3: "BROTHERS ARE IN SERVICE Two sons of Robert McCaslin, 115 South Lipscomb Street, who is a veteram of World War I, are enlisted for service in this war. Monroe McCaslin is now in dry dock at Fremerton, Wash. He has previously served on a battleship in the Iceland area. His brother, W. H. McCaslin, is taking miltary [sic] training at Phoenix, Ariz." In 1948 and 1951, Monroe H McCaslin and Mrs Juanita McCaslin are living at 757 Alamitos Ave when they register to vote in Long Beach City Precinct No. 123, Los Angles County, California. Both are Democrats (Los Angeles County, 1948, Roll 71, 281; Los Angeles County, 1950, Roll 78, 314).

In 1954, Monroe H McCaslin and Mrs Juanita L. McCaslin are living at 1555 Elm Ave when they register to vote in Long Beach City Precinct No. 229, Los Angles County, California. Both are Democrats (Los Angeles County, 1954, Roll 92, 238).

M H McCaslin, born 12 Aug 1924, died 20 May 2002 in Olympia, Thurston, Washington 98502. He applied for his Social Security number in Arizona before 1951.

Monroe H. "Mac" McCaslin, born August 12, 1924 in Henrietta, Oklahoma, passed away suddenly at home May 20, 2002. Mr. McCaslin served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was also an active Mason and Hiram Award recipient, dedicating 40 years to the organization.He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nita, in 1994. He is survived by his daughter, Victoria Shuler (Dennis), of Lakewood, Wash.; adopted daughter, Bernadette Stearns (Alan), of Long Beach, Calif.; grandchildren, Robert and Deborah Leff, Laurie Campbell, and Jeff Stearns; and three great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be conducted by Olympia Lodge #1 and Harmony Lodge #18 at the Masonic Temple, 521 SE North St, Olympia, at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 31st. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorder Clinic.
