Indiana McCaslins

IIn the 1880 US Federal Census for Cedar Creek, Crawford, Arkansas, 64-year-old Kentucky-born Jane A Louis [sic] [Hobaugh Lewis] is keeping house for a household that consists of two of her Arkasas-born children, 30-year-old Malinda and 27-year-old James H and her 66-year-old Kentucky-born brother P C [Philip] Hobaugh. Philip has "lost a leg". Jane and Philip's father was born in Pennsylvania and their mother in North Carolina. Malina and James' parents were born in Kentucky. Living on the next two farms are Jane's daughters Henretta [sic] [Lewis] McCaslin and Manerva [Lewis] Temple and their families.

The next household contains 34-year-old Arkansas-born farm laborer A. J. [Andrew Jackson] and his 33-year-old Missouri-born wife Henrietta [Lewis] McCaslin who have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 11-year-old David, 9-year-old Sarah, 7-year-old Manerva, 5-year-old Malissa and one-year-old Tennessee. David, Sarah and Manerva have attended school in the past year. Andrew's parents were born in Indiana [sic]; Henrietta's father was born in Pennsylvania and her mother in Kentucky; the children's father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri.

Beyond the McCaslins are 50-year-old Tennessee-born farmer F M [Francis M] and his Missouri-born 39-year-old wife Manerva [Lewis] Temple. In this household are Francis' Arkansas-born children by his first wife Mary Rozell, 24-year-old James F, 22-year-old William A, and Francis and Manervas Arkansas-born children, 18-year-old Mary, 13-year-old Francis. 9-year-old Charles N, 7-year-old Sarah, 5-year-old Narcissa, and one-year-old Thomas I [This is Iva Thomas, incorrectly recorded as a male]. Francis, Charles and Sarah have attended school in the past year. Francis's father was born in Georgia and his mother in Virginia; Manerva's father was born in Kentucky and her mother in Missouri; the children's father was born in Tennessee and their mother in Missouri.

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Township 11, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, 54-year-old Arkansas-born A J [Andrew Jackson] and his 50-year-old Missouri-born Henretta [Lewis] McCaslin have been married 23-years old. They have had six children, all six are living. Living with them are three of their Arkansas-born daughters, 29-year-old Sarrah [sic] [McCaslin] Smith, 22-year-old Parry [sic] Lee [McCaslin] Lewis and 16-year-old Edith McCaslin, and Sarah Smith's Indian Territory-born children, 7-year-old Charles and one-year-old Mertie. Sarah has been married eight years, and borne four children, only two are living, Charles and Mertie, but her husband is not in the household. Perry Lee is a widow who has borne two children, none are living. Andrew is a farmer who is farming rented land and has had no months without work in the past year. Sarah is a day laborer who has had six months without work in the past year. Perry and Edith are farm laborers and have had no months without work in the past year. No one has attended school. Everyone except Charles and Mertie can read, write and speak English. Andrew's parents were born in Ohio [sic]; Henrietta's parents were born in Missouri; Sarah, Perry and Edith's father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri; Charles and Mertie's father was born in Kansas and their mother in Arkansas. The McCaslin household is living next to that of Andrew and Henrietta's daughter, Minerva [McCaslin] Baker and her husband, William W Baker.
