In the 1930 US Federal Census for Mission, Johnson, Kansas, 45-year-old Illinois-born Theodore W and his 37-year-old Kansas-born wife Ara [sic] M [Ora McCaslin] Amberg were married when he was 42- and she was 34-years old [abt 1927]. They have in their household their Kansas-born children, 2-year 3-month old Theodore W Jr and one-year-old John M. The family is living in a rented house at 1811-50th Street, for which Theodore pays $40 a month rent. They have a radio. Theodore Sr is the sales manager of a wheel factory and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has served in the military in WWI. Theodore Sr and Ora can read, write and speak English. Theodore Sr's father was born in Wisconsin and his mother in Illinois; Ora's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Illinois; the children's father was born in Illinois and their mother in Kansas.

In the 1940 US Federal Census for Mission, Johnson, Kansas, 55-year-old Illinois-born Theodore W and his 47-year-old Kansas-born wife Ora M [McCaslin] Amberg have in their household their Kansas-born children, 12-year-old Theodore [Jr] and 11-year-old John M. The family is living in a rented house at 1811 West 50th for which Theodore pays $65 a month. They were living in the same house in 1935. Theodore [Sr] and Ora have completed high school. Theodore [Jr] has completed sixth grade and John has completed 5th grade. Both have attended school in the past year. Theodore is employed as a lawyer for a law firm, has worked 40 hours in the past week and 50 weeks in the past year, earning a salary of $5,000. Ora is a housewife who is not looking for work. Neither has an outside source of income.

Obituary-Kansas City Star May 23, 2004 John McCaslin Amberg John McCaslin Amberg, 75, was born in Westwood Hills, KS, March 6, 1929, and died May 4, 2004, in Torrance, CA, of pancreatic cancer.

John was active in Boy Scouts, Little League, and Pop Warner Football. He was a member of the Vestry at St. Francis Episcopal Church, and received the DSA Award from Lunada Bay Grade School. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, attended Shawnee Mission Rural High School where he was Student Body President, captain of the football and basketball teams; at the University of Kansas he was Senior Class President and cocaptain of the 1950 Jayhawk football team. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. John played football for the New York Giants, and was a member of the famous "Umbrella Defense". During the Korean War, he graduated from the Marine OCS at Quantico, VA. In 1953, he was chosen as the "All Service" player by the Washington D.C. Touchdown Club. He served in Japan and Korea until 1955.

In April 1955, John married Maureen Lannon of North Hollywood, CA.

John was President of Custom Acrylic Fabrication Corp. John was president of the International Association of Plastics Distributors in 19801981, and was voted Man of the Year in 1985. He was affiliated with the National Football League Alumni Assoc. since its inception. At the time of his death, he was president of the Southern California Chapter. He also served on the National Board of Directors in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

John is survived by his wife, Maureen; four children, their spouses, and 12 grandchildren; and his brother Ted of Kearney, MO, also survives.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates, CA, at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to NFLA So.
