On 9 Oct 1884, 25-year-old Mr Milton I Lingo and 16-year-old Mary E McCaslin, both of Crawford County, Arkansas, applied for a marriage license at the Crawford County Clerk's Office. They were married 12 Oct by A D Nordin, Min[ister] MP Church. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Upper Crawford, Arkansas, 42-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Milton and his 31-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mary E [McCaslin] Lingo have been married 16 years and have had eight children, but only five are living. These five Arkansas-born children are 13-year-old Jessey [sic] W, 8-year-old Mila, 7-year-old Florence, 2-year-old Mary, and 2-month old Clarence E. Jesse has attended school four months of the past year. He and his parents can read, write and speak English. Milton owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage. Milton's father was born in South Carolina and his mother in Virginia; Mary's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Tennessee; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Upper Crawford, Arkansas, 52-year-old Arkansas-born farmer M J [Milton] and his 42-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mary [McCaslin] Lingo have been married 24 years [sic]. Mary has born thirteen children, but only seven are living. Four of these Arkansas-born children are living with them, 10-year-old Elmer, 7-year-old Rosie, and 4-year-old twins, Leonard and Lenny [sic]. Also in this household are 32-year-old "hired hands", 32-year-old Missouri-born Bill Warrick, 34-year-old Virginia-born John Jackson and 28-year-old Texas-born John Roach. This household is living in a rented house. None of the children have attended school. Milton is a "tie hacker of railroad ties", and Bill Warrick, John Jackson and John Roach are laborers who do "tie hacking". All the adults speak English. All the adults are literate except Bill Warrick. Milton's father was born in South Carolina and his mother in Virginia; Mary's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Tennessee; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Sallisaw, Sequoyah, Oklahoma, 63-year-old Arkansas-born Melton [sic] J Lingo and his 53-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mary E [McCaslin] Lingo have in their household five of their children. Four of them were born in Arkansas, 16-year-old Rosa, 18-year-old Elmer, and the twins, 13-year-old Lenoard [sic] and Lennie. Their youngest child, 8-year old Katie, was born in Oklahoma. The family is living on Gans Road. None of the children have attended school. Everyone is literate except Katie. Everyone speaks English. Milton is a farmer doing general farming. Milton's father was born in South Carolina and his mother in Virginia; Mary's parents were born in Arkansas [sic]; the children's parents were born in the United States [sic]. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 73-year-old Arkansas-born M J [Milton J] Lingo and his 63-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mary E [McCaslin] Lingo were married when he was 25- and she was 17-years-old. They have in their household their children, 23-year-old Arkansas-born Leonard, 19-year-old Oklahoma-born Katie [Lingo] Baugh (who was married when she was 18-years-old), and 2-year-old Oklahoma-born grandson Allen Dwight Lingo. The family is living at 830-61st Ave West in a house that Milton rents for $17.50 a month. Everyone except baby Allen is literate and speaks English. Milton and Mary have no profession. Leonard "operates emery wheel at the Iron Works". Katie is a saleslady for a retail grocery. Both have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Milton has not served in the military. Milton's father was born in the United States and his mother in Virginia; Mary's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Tennessee; Leonard and Katies' parents were born in Arkansas; Allen's father was born in the United States and his mother in Oklahoma. Also at this residence are 30-year-old Arkansas-born Elmer [sic] Lingo and his 22-year-old Missouri-born wife Juanita [Lutes] Lingo and their two Oklahoma-born children, 5-year-old Bonita and 10-month old Cornell. Elmer and Juanita were married when he was 22- and she was 15-years old. Elmer is a "helper on crane" at the Iron Works and worked on the last regularly scheduled work day.
