These Arkansas-born children are 3-year-old Eldred and one-year-old Elmer. The family is living in a rented house at 211 North D Street. Charlie is a laborer in a steam laundry and has no months without work in the past year. Charlie and Addie can read, write and speak English. Charlie's father was born in the United States [sic] and his mother in Arkansas; Addie's father was born in Missouri, but her mother's birthplace is left blank; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Creek, Wagoner, Oklahoma, 37-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Charles and his 35-year-old Arkansas-born wife Addie [Dotson] Johnson have in their household their children, 12-year-old Eldred, 8-year-old Quillie E, 7-year-old Olos, 5-year-old Thearn and one-year 10-month old Carl. Eldred was born in Arkansas, but the other children were born in Oklahoma, indicating that the family moved to Oklahoma before 1912. Elmer is missing from this census and may be presumed to have died. Eldred, Quillie, and Olos have attended school in the past year. Charles, Addie and Eldred can read, write and speak English. Charles is doing "general farming" on rented land. Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas. Charles is living near his mother Melvina McCaslin Johnson Lane. In the 1925 Kansas State Census for Coffeyville, Montgomery, Kansas, 45-year-old Arkansas-born Charlie F [sic] and his 41-year-old Arkansas-born wife Addie [Dotson] Johnson have in their household their children, 18-year-old Eldred, 13-year-old Evelyn [Quillie on the 1920 US Census], 12-year-old Ollas, 10-year-old Thearn, 7-year-old Carl and 5-year-old Thomas. Eldred was born in Arkansas, the other children were born in Oklahoma. The family is living at 921 West 14th Street. Charlie and Eldred are laborers in a oil refinery. Everyone can read and write except Carl and Thomas. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Coffeyville, Montgomery, Kansas, 49-year-old Arkansas-born C S [sic Charles S] and his 46-year-old Arkansas-born wife Addie [Dotson] Johnson were married when he was 24- and she was 21-years old. They have in their household their children, 18-year-old Evelyn, 17-year-old Ollas, 15-year-old Thearn, 12-year-old Carl, 10-year-old Thomas, 4-year 2-month old Mildred, and 2-year 8-month old Velma. All the children were born in Oklahoma except Mildred and Velma who were born in Kansas. The family is living in a house at 1104 Twelfth Street for which Charles pays $12 a month. They do not have a radio. Ollas, Thearn, Carl and Thomas have attended school in the past year. Everyone except Mildred and Velma can read, write and speak English. Charles is a laborer in an oil refinery. Evelyn is a saleswoman in a variety store. Both have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Charles has not served in the military.
