In the 1920 US Federal Census for Upper, Crawford, Arkansas, 35-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Elias and his 31-year-old Arkansas-born farm laborer wife May [Painter] Poor have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 14-year-old Ova, 13-year-old Vanila Dean [sic], 10-year-old Murl, 5-year-old Zella, and 3-year 2-month old Mathew. Also in this household is a homeless man, 41-year-old Arkansas-born John Eary. Ova and Vanila have attended school in the past year. Elias, May, Ova, Vanila and Murl can read, write and speak English. John Eary is illiterate, but can speak English. Elias owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage. Elias' parents were born in the United States; May's father was born in Texas and her mother in Missouri; everyone else's parents were born in Arkansas.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Upper, Crawford, Arkansas, 47-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Elias and his 44-year-old Arkansas-born wife Ida M [May] [Painter] Poor were married when he was 21- and she was 17-years old. They have in their household their youngest Arkansas-born children, 22-year-old Nella D [Vanila Dean on the 1920 census], 16-year-old Zilla M [sic], and 13-year-old Mathew. Zilla and Mathew have attended school in the past year. Elias is farming land he owns, free of mortgage, and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Elias' father was born in Missouri and his mother in Arkansasa; Ida's parents were born in Missouri [sic]; the children's parents were born in Arkansas.

Obituary Mrs. Ida Mae Poor, 87 years old of Chester, Arkansas died Thursday January 30, 1975 in a local hospital.

She was born in Missouri on July 27, 1887, the daughter of Bill and Adeline Williams Painter, was a member of the Methodist church and a resident of the Chester area for 82 years.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. D Seratt of Chester and Zella of Winslow; two sons, J. M. of Chester and Murl of Susanville, California; 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday at Freedom Church North of Chester. Roy Oliver was the officiating minister. Burial was in Freedom cemetery directed by Ocker Funeral Home.
