Shared note | In the 1900 US Federal Census for Ada, Higgins, Conway, Arkansas, 38-year-old Georgia-born J M [sic] and his 33-year-old Arkansas-born wife Lizzie [Aleatha Elizabeth Tinnin Dunigan] Boyle [sic] have been married for 13 years [sic], but not to each other. This is a second marriage for both. Lizzie has born five children, but only three are living, 9-year-old Andrew Dunogin [sic], 7-year-old Vesta Viola and 1-year-old George Washington Dunogin. Also in this household are Joseph's children, 12-year-old Willie, 9-year-old Frank, 6-year-old Maggie, and 3-year-old Elma, and Joseph's 10-year-old niece, Nannie Boyle [sic]. All the children were born in Indiana. Everyone can speak English. Joseph is illiterate, Lizzie can read and write, Willie, Frank and Nannie have attended school three months of the past year. From the ages of the children Joseph and Lizzie married in 1899-1900. Joseph's parents were born in Georgia; Lizzie's parents were born in Texas; Joseph's children's father was born in Georgia and their mother in Arkansas; Lizzie's children's father was born in Missouri and their mother in Texas [sic]; Nannie Boyles father's birthplace is unknown, her mother's birthplace is Georgia. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Benedict, Faulkner, Arkansas, 48-year-old Georgia-born farmer Joseph M and his 40-year-old [sic] Texas-born [sic] wife Aleatha [Tinnin Dunigan] Boyles have been married for 10 years. Aleatha has borne twelve children but only eight are living. This is a second marriage for both, making this a "his, hers and ours" family. They have in their household Joseph's children by his first wife, Florence Carroll (17-year-old Sarah M and 13-year-old Elmer Boyles), Aleatha's children by her first husband, Mr Dunigan (17-year-old Vesta V and 13-year-old George W Dunigan), and their children (9-year-old Mary E, 7-year-old James O and 4-year-old Marion O). All the children were born in Arkansas. Also in this household is a hired man, 22-year-old Tennessee-born Auther [sic] McHughes. Sarah, Elmer, Vesta and George are laborers on the home farm. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Ola, Yell, Arkansas, 34-year-old [sic] Arkansas-born [sic] Bill Fletcher [sic this is his stepfather's name, his birth name is McCaslin] and his 27-year-old Arkansas-born wife Maggie [maiden name unknown] have in their household their 5-year-old Arkansas-born son Laurence. the family is living in a rented house. Everyone can read, write and speak English even though Lawrence has not attended school in the past year. Bill is a "Section Fireman". Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas [sic]. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Mason, Yell, Arkansas, 46-year-old Missouri-born Bill Fletcher [sic this is his stepfather's name, his birth name is McCaslin] and his wife 36-year-old Arkansas-born wife Maggie [Boyles] Fletcher [sic] were married when he was 31- and she was 21-years old [abt 1915]. They have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 15-year-old Larence [sic] and 7-year-old Florence. The family is living in a house, for which Bill pays $14 a month in rent. Lawrence and Florence have attended school in the past year. Bill is a fireman for the railroad and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He is a veteran of the military, and served in the Spanish-American War. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Bill's father was born in Alabama [sic] and his mother in Missouri, Maggie's father was born in Georgia and her mother in Arkansas, the children's father was born in Missouri and their mother in Arkansas. Maggie Fletcher died on 3 Jun 1944 and was buried in the Birta Cemetery, Yell County, Arkansas.
