In the 1900 US Federal Census for Humeston, Richman, Wayne, Iowa, 30-year-old Michigan-born Duncan L and his 25-year-old New York-born wife Jennie L [Buck] McRae [sic MacRae] have been married two years and have had one child, one-month old Iowa-born Cecil D. The family is living in a rented house. Duncan is an "engineer" for an unknown company, creamery is crossed out. Ducan and Jennie can read, write and speak English. Ducan's father was born in Scotland and his mother in English-speaking Canada. Jennie's father was born in Maryland and her mother in New York. Cecil's father was born in Michigan and his mother in New York.

in the 1910 US Federal Census for Richman, Wayne, Iowa, 32-year-old New York-born widow Jennie [Buck] McRay [sic] has born four children and all four are living. These Iowa-born children are 10-year old Cecil, 8-year-old Burnetta, 6-year-old Hattie and 5-year-old Lois. All of the children have attended school in the past year. The family is living in a house that Jennie owns, free of mortgage. Jennie is a Dressmaker who works from home. She is literate and speaks English.

In the 1915 Iowa State Census for Humeston, Wayne, Iowa, 15-year-old Iowa-born Cecil D McRea [sic] has attended a public grammar school for eight years, and can read and write. He was born in Humeston, Wayne, Iowa. He is a Congregationalist. His father was born in Michigan and his mother in New York.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Humeston, Wayne, Iowa, 76-year-old Maryland-born widower William H Buck is living with his 43-year-old New York-born widowed daughter Jennie [Buck] MacRae and her four Iowa-born children,19-year old Cecil D, 18-year-old Burnetta, 16-year-old Hattie and 14-year-old Lois. Hattie and Lois have attended school in the past year. The family is living in a house that William [sic] owns, free of mortgage. William has no profession, Jennie is a clerk in a general store and Cecil is a telephone lineman. Everyone is literate and speaks English. William's parents were born in Germany; Jennies' father in Maryland and her mother in New York; the childrens father was born in Michigan and their mother in New York.

In the 1925 Iowa State Census for Ames, Story, Iowa, 24-year-old Iowa-born Cecil and his 22-year-old Iowa-born wife Irene [Wilson] McRae [sic] have in their household their 2-year-old Iowa-born daughter Cecil [sic] V and two unmarried lodgers, 23-year-old Dillon K Hemphill and 24-year-old Elbert C Hemphill. This household is living at 2908 Jackson, for which Cecil pays $50 rent per month. Cecil has attended two years of college, ten months of which were in 1924 [probably Iowa State University, which is located in Ames]. Irene has completed High School. Cecil's father was Missouri-born Ducan McRae [sic] and his mother Jennie Buck McRae who were married in Iowa, neither are living [sic]. Irene's father is 56-year-old Iowa-born William Wilson and her mother 49-year-old Iowa-born Margaret McGhee[sic]. They were also married in Iowa. Cecil has served in the Army. He enlisted or was drafted from Iowa. Cecil has no occupation listed. Irene is engaged in "domestic or personal service". Cecil is a Congregationalist, Irene is a Baptist and baby Cecil is a Presbyterian [sic]
