In the 1910 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 30-year-old Illinois-born farmer Zed L and his 27-year-old Indiana-born wife Pearl [Snodgrass] Barnett have been married nine years and have had three children. These Kansas-born children are 7-year-old Wayne, 5-year-old Fern and 8-month old Lucile. Wayne has attended school in the past year. Zed and Pearl can read, write and speak English. Zed is farming rented land and has had no months of unemployment in the past year. Zed's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Illinois, Pearl's parents were born in Indiana and the children's father in Illinois and their mother in Indiana.

In the 1915 Kansas State Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 35-year-old Illinois-born farmer Z L [Zedd] and his 32-year-old Indiana-born wife Pearl [Snodgrass] Barnett have in their household their Kansas-born children, 12-year-old Wayne, 9-year-old Fern and 5-year-old Lucile. All three children have attended school in the past year. Zed came to Kansas from Illinois, Pearl from Indiana, but all the children were born in Kansas.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 40-year-old Illinois-born farmer Zedd [sic] L and his 37-year-old Indiana-born wife Pearl [Snodgrass] Barnett have in their household their Kansas-born children, 17-year-old farm laborer Wayne, 14-year-old Fern, 10-year-old Lucile and 4-month old Albert. Fern and Lucile have attended school in the past year. Everyone except baby Albert can read, write and speak English. Zed owns the land he is farming, but with a mortgage. Zed's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Illinois, Pearl's parents were born in Indiana and the children's father in Illinois and their mother in Indiana.

In the 1925 Kansas State Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 45-year-old Illinois-born farmer Z L [Zedd] and his 42-year-old Indiana-born farmer wife Pearl [Snodgrass] Barnett have in their household their Kansas-born children, 22-year-old farmer Wayne, 19-year-old school teacher Fern, 15-year-old schoolgirl Lucile and 7-year-old schoolboy Marion [Albert in the 1920 census] and Zed's Pennsylvania-born 63-year-old widowed step-mother, Lena M [Elias] Barnett. The family is living at a farm on RR 1. Zed came to Kansas from Illinois, Pearl from Indiana, Lena came from Pennsylvania, but all the children were born in Kansas.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 50-year-old Illinois-born farmer Zedd [sic] L and his 47-year-old Indiana-born wife Myrtle P [Snodgrass] Barnett were married when Zed was 21- and Myrtle was 18-years old. They have in their household their Kansas-born children, 25-year-old grade school teacher Gertrude F [Fern], 20-year-old schoolgirl Lucille and 12-year-old schoolboy Marion E, Zed's Maryland-born [sic] 67-year-old widowed step-mother, Lena M [Elias] Barnett (who was married when she was 25-years old) and a boarder, 30-year-old Kansas-born lodger and farm laborer Charles M Hair. Zed is doing general farming on a rented farm. He and Gertrude have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Zed's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Illinois, Pearl's parents were born in Indiana, the children's father in Illinois and their mother in Indiana, Lena's parents in Russia and Charles' parents were born in the United States. Living on an adjacent farm, are Zedd and Myrtle's son 27-year-old Kansas-born wheat farmer Wayne O Barnett, his wife, Phyllis G [maiden name unknown] and their 3-month old Kansas-born son Lawrence W. Wayne and Phyllis were married when they were both 26-years old. Both can read, write and speak English. Wayne has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Wayne's father was born in Illinois and his mother in Kansas, Phyllis' father was born in Ohio and her mother in Kansas and Lawrence's parents were born in Kansas.
