Shared note | In the 1900 US Federal Census for Nevada, Ness, Kansas, 64-year-old farmer Joseph and his 55-year-old wife Caroline [maiden name unknown] Wray have been married 33-years and have had eight children, only three are living. However, the census taker has recorded four children, 33-year-old Indiana-born farmer W.E. [William Edward] who has been married 6 months, 30-year-old Iowa-born farmer George, 24-year-old Indiana-born E.L. [sic she is Euphemia Snodgrass, William's wife], and 17-year-old Iowa-born Mabel Wray. Also in this household is a hired man, 17-year-old Iowa-born John Willour. Joseph immigrated from England in 1851 and is a naturalized citizen. Caroline immigrated from England in 1865. Joseph is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. Everyone's parents are recorded as being born in England, except John Willour, whose father was born in Ohio and his mother in Illinois. This parental English birth is incorrect for Euphemia, whose parents, Hugh and Lidia [Gray] Snodgrass, are living on an adjacent farm and who were born in Indiana. |
