Indiana McCaslins

In the 1900 US Federal Census for Woodville, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, age unknown, Missouri-born [sic] Henry [William Henry] and his 36-year-old Arkansas-born wife Jennie [sic] [Virginia Lynch] McCaslin have been married 19 years and have had nine children, five are living. These five Indian Territory-born children are 17-year-old James W, 14-year-old Mary, 13-year-old Bell, 8-year-old Robert and 5-year-old Bennie. The family is living in a house that Henry owns. Henry is a stone mason. He can read, but not write English. Jennie is illiterate as is their oldest son James. Mary is literate. Henry, Jennie, James and Mary are recorded as being able to speak English. The place of birth of Henry's parents is unknown, Jennie's father was born in Virginia and her mother in Kentucky and the children's father was born in Missouri [sic] and their mother in Arkansas.s3846

In the 1910 US Federal Census or McAlester, Pittsburg, Oklhoma, 48-year-old, Missouri-born [sic] Henry [William Henry] and his 48-year-old Arkansas-born wife Virginia [Lynch] McCaslin have been married 29 years. Virginia has borne thirteen children, eight are living. The Oklahoma-born children living with them are 18-year-old Robert W [sic], 16-year-old Bennie F., 7-year-old Lottie, 5-year-old Elmer and 3-year-old Harry [sic Henry].The family is living at 200 West Monroe Street in a rented house. The parents and the oldest children can speak English but none of them are literate. None of the children have attended school in the past year. Henry is a common laborer and has had no months without work in the past year. Henry's parents were born in Missouri [sic]; Virginia's parents were born in Virginia [sic], and the children's father was born in Missouri [sic] and their mother in Arkansas.s4728
