Indiana McCaslins

In the 1910 US Federal Census for Bear, Montgomery, Arkansas, 28-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Robert E and his 26-year-old Arkansas-born wife Clara A [Rawls] McCastlin [sic] have been married nine years and have had four children, all are living. These Arkansas-born children are 8-year-old Elvie N, 6-year-old Mary B, 4-year-old Robert O and one-year 11-month old Sylvia A. Elvie and Mary have attended school in the past year. Robert and Clara can read, write and speak English. Robert is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. Robert's parents were born in Indiana, Clara's father in Arkansas and her mother in Mississippi, and the children's parents were born in Arkansas. The family is living next door to Robert's brother, Charles B McCaslin and his family, and Robert's mother, Mariah [Orrell] McCaslin.

In the 1920 US Federal Census for Bear, Garland, Arkansas, 38-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Robert E and his 26-year-old Arkansas-born wife Clara A [Rawls] McCoslin [sic] have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 16-year-old Blanche [Mary B in 1910], 14 year old Aubrey [Robert O in 1910], 11-year-old Sylvia, 9-year-old Keneth [sic], 6-year-old Hollis, 3-year one-month old Helen, and 6-month old Harold. The family is living on a farm on Bear and Royal Road, which Robert owns, but with a mortgage. Blanche, Aubrey, Silvia and Kenneth have attended school in the past year. Robert, Clara, Blanche Aubrey, and Silvia can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas.

On 24 Dec 1923, 21-year-old Frazier Hight signed a $100 bond for marriage to 16-year-old Sylvia McCaslin. Sylvia's father, R E McCaslin stood security for this amount. The license was therefore issued to Frazier at that time. Frazer was a resident of Mount Ida, Montgomery, Arkansas, and Sylvia was a resident of Bear, Garland, Arkansas. They were married by L T Rogers on 25 Dec 1923. and the license recorded on page 12 of Book 29 of Marriage Records on 27 Dec 1923.

In the 1930 US Federal Census for South Fork, Montgomery, Arkansas, 28-year-old Arkansas-born Frazier R and his 21-year-old Arkansas-born wife Silva [sic] McCaslin Hight were married when he was 21- and she was 15-years old [sic]. They have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 4-year 6-month old Delbert D [sic] and one-year 9-month old Joline F. The family is living in a rented house, for which Frazer pays $2.00 a month rent. They do not own a radio. Frazer and Sylvia can read, write and speak English. Frazer is a log cutter in a lumber mill and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas.

The 1940 US Federal Census for Cedar, Scott, Arkansas records 37-year-old, Arkansas-born Frazier Hight, his 31-year-old, Arkansas-born wife Sylvia [McCaslin] Hight and their Arkansas-born children, 14-year-old Delbert, 11-year-old Jolene, 9-year-old Arnold, 7-year-old Mary Helen, and 5-year-old Freddie. The family is living in a rented farmhoue for which they pay $4 a month. The family was living in the town of Garland, Arkansas in 1935. Frazier has completed 6th grade. Sylvia has completed the 8th grade. Delbert has completed 5th grade. Jolene has completed 4th grade, Arnold has completed 3rd grade. Mary Helen has completed 1st grade. Freddie has not attended school. Frazier is employed as a laborer for the Kansas City-Southern Railroad, has worked 44 hours in the past week and 40 weeks of the past year, earning $540. Sylvia is a housewife who is not looking for work. Delbert is a student who is not looking for work. No one has an outside source of income.

Sylvia Hight applied for her Social Security Number in California before 1951.

Sylvia [McCaslin] Hight died on 21 May 1977 in Sutter County, Caliornia at the age of 69. Her last residence was Marysville, Yuba, California 95901. She was born 21 May 1908 in Arkansas.
