Shared note | In the 1870 US Federal Census for Monterey, Owen, Kentucky, 31-year-old Indiana-born farmer Jackson McAnnally [sic] has no real estate nor personal property of value. He and his 29-year-old Kentucky-born wife Susan [Gill] McAnnally [sic] have in their family their Kentucky-born children, 8-year-old Margaret, 5-year Charles, 3-year-old Victoria and 4-month old Print [sic]. Susan is a person over 21 who can neither read nor write. Jackson is a male citizen over 21-years of age. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Caney, Owen, Kentucky, 42-year-old Illinois-born [sic] laborer Jackson McNella [sic McAnally] has worked nine months out of the past year. He and his 37-year-old [sic] Kentucky-born wife Susan [Gill] McNella [sic McAnally] have in their household their Kentucky-born children, 16-year-old laborer Charles (who has worked two months of the past year), 13-year-old Victory [sic Victoria], 10-year-old Printz [sic Prentice] (who works on farm), 8-year-old Leora, 6-year-old Sarah and 4-year-old Mason. Charles and Victoria have attended school in the past year. Victoria cannot write. Jackson's father was born in Virginia and his mother in Indiana. Susan's father was born in Kentucky and her mother in Virginia. The children's parents are both recorded as being born in Kentucky [sic]. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Cleveland, Owen, Kentucky, 35-year-old Kentucky-born Chas J [sic] and his 32-year-old Kentucky-born wife Jennie [sic Jane McCasland] McNelly [sic McAnally] have been married 12-years and have had four children, three are living. These three Kentucky-born children are 10-year-old Arthur, 8-year-old Victor and 6-year-old Mace [sic Mason]. The family is living in a rented house. Charles is a blacksmith who has had no months out of work in the past year. Arthur and Victor have attended school five months of the past year. Charles, Jennie and Arthur can read, write and speak English. Charles' father was born in Indiana and his mother in Kentucky. Jennie's parents were born in Kentucky. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Cleveland, Owen, Kentucky, 45-year-old Kentucky-born Charlie [sic] and his 41-year-old Kentucky-born wife Jennie [sic Jane McCasland] McAnally have been married 22-years and have had seven children, but only six are living. Five of the children are living with them. These Kentucky-born children are 19-year-old Victor, 17-year-old Mason, 9-year-old Ruth, and 4-year-old twins Stanely [sic] and Stella. The family is living in a house that Charlie owns. Charlie is a blacksmith who owns his business, Victor is a laborer, "working out", and Mason is a farm laborer, "working out". None of the children have attended school in the past year. Charlie, Jennie, Victor and Mason are recorded as being able to read, write and speak English. Charlie's father was born in the United States [sic] and his mother in Kentucky. Everyone else's parents were born in Kentucky. This family is living next door to Jennie's parents, Billy [sic William] and Sarah [Long] McCasland. Charles and Jane divorced before 1916, and a dispondent Jane committed suicide on 5 Jun 1916. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Cleveland, Owens, Kentucky, 28-year-old Kentucky-born farmer Will D and his 19-year-old Kentucky-born wife Ruth [McAnally] Wainscott have in the household their Kentucky-born children, 2-year 5 month old Alma and 3-month old Harold, Ruth's widowed father, 55-year-old Kentucky-born blacksmith Charlie [sic] McAnally, and Ruth's Kentucky-born siblings, 29-year-old blacksmith Victor, and the 14-year-old twins, Stella and Stanley McAnally. Will owns the farm on which the family is living. Everyone but the Wainscott babies can read, write and speak English. Stella and Stanley have attended school in the past year. Living next door is Charlie's brother, 49-year-old Kentucky-born farmer Price [Prentice] McAnally and his nephew, 19-year-old Kentucky-born farmer Raymond Minor. Price owns the land he and Raymond are farming. Price and Raymond can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Kentucky [sic}. In the 1930 US Federal Census for the 4th Magisterial District, Owen, Kentucky, 65-year-old Kentucky-born blacksmith Chas [sic] J and 60-year-old Kentucky-botn Denia [Kistner Meadows] McAnally were married for the first time when he was 22-years old and she was 17-years old. This is a second marriage for both. Charles owns the house where they live, worth $400. He also is an employer who worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Both can read, write and speak English. Charles's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Virginia [sic]. Denia's parents were born in Germany. The 1930 census was taken by Charles' son Victor McAnally. Charles J McAnally died on 14 Jan 1941 at his home in rural Owen County, Kentucky of chronic myocarditis. He was 76-years 2-months 20-days old having been born on 24 Oct 1864 in Kentucky. His death certificate records that he was married to 70-year-old Denna Kistner McAnally, that he was a retired blacksmith, and that his father was Jack [sic] McAnally and his mother Susan Gill. Mrs. Webb Lucas, the informant for the information on the death certificate, didn't know their birthplaces. He was buried in the Mt. Zion Churchyard, Owenton, Owen, Kentucky on 16 Jan 1941 (R W Redding and Son, undertakers). |
