In the 1920 US Federal Census for Lee, Garland, Arkansas, 51-year-old [sic] Indiana-born farmer David [sic] and his 47-year-old Arkansas-born wife Abbagal M [sic] [Melissa Abigail Rawls] McCaslin have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 16-year old Thelma B, 13-year-old Lelan J [sic], 10-year-old Jessie I, and 8-year-old James C [sic]. The family is living on a farm on Social Hill Road in home David owns, free of mortgage. All the children have attended school in the past year. David is illiterate, Abigail, Thelma, Leland, and Jessie can read and write. Everyone speaks English. David is doing general farming. David's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Maryland [sic]; Abigail's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Mississippi [sic]; the children's father was born in Indiana and their mother in Arkansas. On 30 Apr 1927 at the Garland County Courthouse, Alfred Ross Maddox signs a $100 Bond for Marriage with Miss Jessie Inez McCaslin, guarenteeing that he will marry her within sixty days of the bond date. An Affidavit stating that he, Alfred Ross Maddox of Garland, is the person who has applied for the marriage license, that he is 21-years-old and that Miss Jessie Inez McCaslin is 18-years-old. A marriage license is then issued to 21-year old Alfred Ross Maddox and 18-year-old Miss Jessie Inez McCaslin, both of Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas. On 1 May 1927, H L Simpson marries them. Their certificate of record is filed on 2 May 1927 by Trager Freeman, County and Probate Clerk. Jessie [McCaslin] Maddox, born 15 Mar 1909, died 10 Nov 1994. Her last residence was Hot Springs National Park, Garland, Arkansas 71913. She applied for her Social Security number in Arkansas in 1964.
