In the 1880 US Federal Census for Heralds Prairie, White, Illinois, 33-year-old Indiana-born Michael and 28-year-old Indiana-born Florence A [Rhoads] Hockersmith have in their family their children, Indiana-born 10-year-old Luella, Indiana-born 8-year-old James M, Indiana-born 6-year-old Rosettie [sic], Indiana-born 5-year-old Lydia C and 1-year-old Illinois-born Ida M. Luella cannot read and write. Rosettie is listed as "malformed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled." Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. The birthplaces of the children would indicate that the family moved to Illinois from Indiana between 1875 and 1879. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Heralds Prairie, White, Illinois, 53-year-old Indiana-born farmer Michael and his 47-year-old Indiana-born wife Florence A [Rhoads] Hockersmith have been married 32 years and have had eight children, only seven are living. The four children living with them are 26-year-old Indiana-born Rozette [sic], 18-year-old Indiana-born Michael, 14-year-old Illinois-born Lillie and 11-year-old Illinois-born Jessie [sic Jesse]. Also in this household is their 6-year-old Illinois-born grandson Arthur Achley [sic Ackley] son of their daughter Lydia C Hockersmith Ackley. Jessie has attended school 5 months of the past year and Arthur has attended school for two months. Michael is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana, except Arthur. His father was born in Illinois and his mother in Indiana. The 1920 US Federal Census for Elm, Stoddard, Missouri records 59-year-old, Georgia-born John A Wilson, his 46-year-old, Indiana-born wife Rosetta [Hockersmith] Wilson, their children, 17-year-old, Illinois-born Thelma, 15-year-old, Illinois-born O Dessa, 12-year-old, Illinois-born Wilard, and 9-year-old, Missouri-born John M Wilson, John A's 26-year-old, Illinois-born son Orvil (from his first marriage) and John A's 67-year-old, Indiana-born mother-in-law Florence [Rhoads] Hockersmith. The family is living in a rented house. John A is doing "general farming". Orvil is assisting him. Florence is retired. Everyone speaks English and can read. Everyone except Orvil can write. O Dessa, Wiliard and John M have attended school in the past year. John A's father was born in North Carolina and his mother in Georgia. Rosetta's parents were born in Indiana. The children of John A and Rosetta have a father born in Georgia and a mother born in Indiana. Orvil's father was born in Georgia and his mother in Illinois. Florence's parents were born in indiana. Widowed Florence A [Rhoads] Hockersmith died of tuberculosis at 5 p.m. on 16 May 1921 at home in Stoddard County, Missouri. She was born in 30 Oct 1850 in Indiana, making her 70-years 6-months and 16-days old when she died. She had suffered from TB for about 3 months before her death. She was buried on 17 May 1921 from the Sobb's Chapel Funeral Home. The informant was her grandson, Arthur Ackley, who did not know her parents' names.
