In the 1900 US Federal Census for Chatsworth, Livingston, Illinois, 43-year-old German-born tailor Simon and his 39-year-old Bohemia-born wife Mary [Barta] Sokol [sic] have been married 17 years and have had eight children, six are living. These six Illinois-born children are 14-year-old Pauline, 13-year-old Harry, 10-year-old Otto, 6-year-old James, 5-year-old William and 2-year-old Agnes. The family is living in a rented house. Pauline, Harry and Otto have attended school nine months of the past year. Simon, Mary, Pauline, Harry and Otto can read, write and speak English. Simon is a tailor. Simon immigrated to the United States in 1880, has been a resident for 20 years and is a naturalize citizen. Mary immigrated in 1864, so she has been a resident of the United States for 36 years. Simon's parents were born in Germany, Mary's in Bohemia, and the children's father was born in Germany and their mother in Bohemia.
