In the 1900 US Federal Census for Lee, Garland, Arkansas, 31-year-old [sic] Indiana-born farmer David [sic] and his 28-year-old wife Abdie [sic] [Melissa Abigail Rawls] McCaslin have been married nine years and have had four children. All are living. These Arkansas-born children are 8-year-old Mary, 6-year-old William, 3-year-old Edna and one-year-old Anie [sic]. None of the children have attended school in the past year. David and Abdie can read, write and speak English. David is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. David's parents were born in Indiana, Adbie's parents in Mississippi, and the children's father in Indiana and their mother in Arkansas.
