In the 1930 US Federal Census for Farmer, Garland, Arkansas, 35-year-old Arkansas-born farmer William D McCaslin and his 35-year-old Arkansas-born wife Lettie M [Brown] McCaslin were married when both were 20-years-old. They have in their household their 9-year-old Arkansas-born son William C [Clayton W] who has not attended school in the past year. The family is living on a farm that William D owns. William D has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day and has not served in the military. William D's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Arkansas; Lottie's father was born in Tennessee and her mother in Arkansas; Clayton's parents were born in Arkansas. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Farmer, Garland, Arkansas, 45-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Willie McCaslin and his 46-year-old Arkansas-born wife Lottie [Brown] McCaslin have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 19-year-old Clayton and 9-year-old Vivian. They are living a house, that Willie own, worth $500. This house is located on a farm. They were living in the same house in 1935. Willie has completed eighth grade. Lottie has completed seventh grade. Clayton has completed high school, Vivian has completed fifth grade. Willie is employed as a farm laborer [sic he is listed as the owner of the business] and is not looking for work, He worked 60 hours in the past week and 40 weeks of the past year. He's earned $400 but this is crossed out as it is not a wage or salary. Lottie is a housewife who is not looking for work. She does not have an outside source of income. Clayton is a student who is not looking for work.
