All are living. These Arkansas-born children are 8-year-old Mary, 6-year-old William, 3-year-old Edna and one-year-old Anie [sic]. None of the children have attended school in the past year. David and Abdie can read, write and speak English. David is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. David's parents were born in Indiana, Adbie's parents in Mississippi, and the children's father in Indiana and their mother in Arkansas. On 23 Jun 1909 at the Garland County, Arkansas Courthouse, B F Kallenbrink as principal and J D McCaslin [Mary Alice's father] as surety sign a $100 bond stating that B F Kallenbrink and M A [Mary Alice] McCaslin will marry within sixty days. However this is signed by M A McCaslin as Principal and J D McCaslin as surety. An Affidavit then issues, stating that B F Kallinbrink of Montgomery, Arkkansas is the person who has applied for the Marriage license and that he is 23-years-old and that Miss M A McCaslin is 17-years-old and that both are single and unmarried and may lawfully contract and be joined in marriage. M A McCaslin signs this document on 23 Jun 1909. A Marriage License issues to 23-year-old B F Kallinbrink and 17-year-old Miss M A McCaslin, both of Bear, Montgomery, Arkansas on 23 Jun 1909, witnesses Robert H Mooney, county Clerk and Garland Mooney, D.C. W L Casksell [?] marries B F and Mary Alice on 27 Jun 1909. The marriage is recorded on 11 Aug 1909 in Garland County Marriage Returns Book P, Page 417 by Robert H Mooney, Clerk of Court. On 12 Aug 1920, P M Huddleston Jr as principal and W W Ermey as surety signed marriage bond for $100. A marriage license was issued the same day for 39-year-old P M Huddleston Jr of Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas and 28-year-old Miss Mamie McCaslin of Royal, Garland, Arkansas. They were married by J R Dickerson of Garland County, Arkansas on 15 Aug 1920, and their "License for, Certificate of, Marriage of" paperwork was filed on 6 Oct 1920. Polk's Hot Springs (Arkansas) City Directory, 1928 records Pleas M Huddleston and his wife Mamie A Huddleston, who live at 111 Florence. Pleas is a clerk for L C Cooper and Mamie is a presser at Muse Cleaning Co. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas, 50-year-old Arkansas-born Pleaz [sic] M and his 38-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mamie [Mary Alice McCaslin] Huddleston were married for the first time when he was 39- and she was 17-years old [Mamie was 28 when she married Pleas, this is a second marriage for her]. They have in their household their adopted daughter 13-year-old Arkansas-born Marie Orrell Huddleston. Marie's natural parents were Jesse James Orrell and Mae Dee Smith. The family is living at 111 Florence Street in a house that Pleas owns, worth $2,000. They have a radio. Marie has attended school in the past year. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Pleas is a wholesale grocery salesman, but has not worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Mamie is a "fancy presser" for a pressing shop and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Pleas has served in the military in WWI. Pleas' and Marie's parents were born in Arkansas. Mamie's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Arkansas. On 27 Apr 1942, when 61-year-old Pleas Miller Huddleston registers for the WWII Draft, he states that his place of residence and his mailing address are Route #1, Hot Springs, Garland, Arkansas. His phone number is 1042 J. He was born 6 Jan 1881 in Garland County, Arkansas. The name of the person who would always know his address is Mamie Huddleston of the Route #1 address. He is not employed. His description is white, 5 feet 8 inches, 175 pounds, with brown eyes and hair and a light complexion. He has a scar on his abdomen. Mary Alice "Mamie" McCaslin Huddleston, died 6 Jan 1987 and is buried next to her husband Pleasant M Huddleston Jr in Mountain Pine, Garland, Arkansas in the Scott Cemetery (Find A Grave Memorial# 23237840).
