Six of these Kentucky-born children are living with them, 17-year-old Mattie, 14-year-old Avery, 11-year-old Jessie H, 9-year-old Mirtle M [sic], 7-year-old Goldner A [sic] and one-year 3-month old LeRoy. Also in this household is Magnolia's father 80-year-old Kentucky-born widower David Welch. Nathan owns the land he is farming but with a mortgage. Everyone but Golder and LeRoy can read, write and speak English. Mattie, Avery and Jessie have attended school in the past year. Everyone's parents were born in Kentucky except David Welch's, whose father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Indiana.
