In the 1880 US Federal Census for Johnson, Scott Indiana, 52-year-old farmer Calvin McCaslin (transcribed Mc Carlin) and his 44-year-old wife Amelia (Trulock) McCaslin have in their household his children by his first wife Roxy Vest, 25-year-old Aurie [Aurela] and 23-year-old Eugene P, their children, 7-year-old Effie and 3-year-old Bertie and 18-year-old Edwin Grapevine, the hired man. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Johnson, Scott, Indiana, 64-year-old Indiana-born widow Ameila (Trulock) McCaslin is head of household. Living with her are her son, 23-year-old Indiana-born Euphoyne [sic] B (Bertie) McCaslin and his 18-year-old Indiana-born wife, Daisy B [Fry]. Amelia owns the farm that her son is farming. The census states that Amelia has borne 3 children and two (Effie and Bertie) are living. Amelia's father was born in Pennsylvania [sic] and her mother in New York [sic]. Everyone else's parents were born in Indiana. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Johnson, Scott, Indiana, 33-year-old Indiana-born Bert E McCaslin Is a "General Farmer" who owns the land he farms free and clear of mortgage. He and his 28-year-old Indiana-born wife, Daisy B (Fry) McCaslin have been married 10 years and have two Indiana-born children in their household, 9-year-old Edith I and 2-year-old Ray S. A third one (Allis Leroy) has died. In the 1915 Iowa State Census for Taylor, Benton, Iowa, 38-year-old Indiana-born E. B. [Euphrosyne B] McCaslin is a farmer who has earned $1,000 from his farm in 1914. He has 11 years of common grammar school education. His wife, 33-year-old Indiana-born Mrs D E [Daisy E] McCaslin has 10 years of a common grammar school education. Their daughter 11-year-old Indiana-born Iren has 5 years of common grammar school education, their son 7-year-old Ray McCaslin has 2 years of common grammar school education and their youngest son 4-year-old Indiana-born Delmer [Delmar] McCaslin hasn't started school. On 12 Sep 1918, when 42-year-old Euphosyne B McCaslin registers for the WWI Draft, he states that he is living at RFD No 2 Austin, Scott, Indiana, that he was born 2 August 1876, and that he is a white, native born citizen of the US. He is a farmer. His nearest relative is his wife, Daisy E McCaslin, also of RFD No 2 Austin, Scott, Indiana. He is tall, slender with blue eyes and black hair. He has no physical conditions that would disqualify him from serving in the military. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Johnson, Scott, Indiana, 43-year-old Indiana-born farmer E B McCaslin and his wife, 38-year-old Indiana-born Daisy (Fry) McCaslin have in their household their Indiana-born children 16-year-old Iren E (Edith I), 12-year-old Ray S and 9-year-old Delmar E and Daisy's 64-year-old Indiana-born auctioneer father, Luther P Fry. The Chronicle, Scottsburg, Indiana, Wednesday, 1 Jun 1921 Bert McCaslin Dead E. Bert McCaslin died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning at his home in Johnson township, about one mile north of New Franklin, of pleuro pneumonia after an illness of only one week's duration. Aged 44 years, 9 months and 27 days. Short funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday morning and interment was at New Frankfort cemetery. He is survived by a wife, one daughter and two sons. Mr. McCaslin was a highly respected citizen of his community and one who will be greatly missed by his neighbors and friends, who sympathize with the bereaved widow and children in their great loss.
