Shared note
In the 1870 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 39-year-old Allen F McCaslin and his 38-year-old wife Mary (Alexander) McCaslin have in their household 16-year-old James, 12-year-old Margaret E, 6-year-old Rebecca F, 5-year-old George L and 1-year-old Jessie. the unnamed baby girl is missing and presumed to have died. All the children were born in Indiana except Jessie who was born in Kansas. This would indicate that the family moved to Kansas between 1866 and 1869. In the 1875 Kansas State Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 45-year-old farmer A.F.[Allen F] McCaslin has $10,000 worth of real estate and $800 worth of personal property. He and his 44-year-old wife M.R. [Mary R Alexander] McCaslin have in their household their children, J.T. [James T], 17-year-old M.E [Margaret E], 12-year-old F [Rebecca Frances], 10-year-old G.L. [George Lincoln] and 6-year-old J.A. [Jessie]. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 46-year-old [he should be 48] A F McCaslin and his 46-year-old [she should be 48] wife Mary (Alexander) McCaslin have in their household 26-year-old James (cigar dealer with a cold the day the census taker arrived), 21-year-old Margret [Margaret E] whose profession is given as "printer", 16-year-old Fannie [Rebecca F], 15-year-old Lincoln [George L] who is listed as a paper carrier, and 11-year-old Jessie. This census record was hard to find as McCaslin is transcribed as Mc Leason. In the 1900 Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 32-year-old [sic, should be 35], Indiana-born printer George L McCaslin is living at 833 Kansas Ave with his 29-year-old, Kentucky-born wife, Mary J [Melott]. They have been married 11 years but have had no children. George's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Tennessee. Mary's father was born in Ohio and her mother in Virginia. In the 1910 Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 45-year-old house painter Geo L [George Lincoln] McCaslin is married to Catherine [Moore]. This is a second marriage for him, but a first for her. They have been married 10 years [sic] and have had no children. They are living at 1829 Clay. Catherine's father was born in Ireland, and her mother in New York. George's parents' birthplaces are incorrect. His birthplace in Indiana is correct, but his parents were not born in Pennsylvania. Apparently the person giving the information did not know where and guessed. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, 54-year-old contractor/painter G. Lincoln and his 46-year-old wife Katherine are still living at 1829 Clay in a house they own.
