Robert Tilson married Evaline M. G. West on 13 Aug 1840 in Johnson County, Indiana. He died before 10 Nov 1849 when Caleb Tarlton married Evaline [West] Tilson in Johnson County, Indiana. From "The Tarleton Family": Caleb Tarlton, born May 27, 1827, in Fayette county, Ky. Married, Nov 12, 1849, Evaline M. West [Tilson], only child of Marcen D and Sophia West. They lived on her farm near Greenwood, Ind., till their seven children were born and then moved to Franklin, Ind. He is a Baptist and a Mason, but a Democrat. Besides being a successfl farmer and stock raiser, he ha been influential in politics. He wa a member of the state house of representatives in 1870 and 1871, and a member of the state senate in 1876. At the time it wa said, "Mr. Tarlton is a thoughful looking gentleman, quiet and dignvied in bearlg, and is one of those men upon whom it can be depended that they mean just what they say and will perfom what they promise." His wife, "a good and accomplished woman, went gladly home, Dec. 19, 1898, after many long years of suffering." In the 1860 US Federal Census for Pleasant, Johnson, Indiana, 33-year-old Caleb Tarlton is a prosperous farmer with $10,000 worth of real estate and $2500 worth of personal property. He and his 34-year-old wife Evaline M West Tarlton have in their household their children, 9-year-old John H, 7-year-old Marit W [sic Merritt W], 5-year-old Marcia E, 4-year-old James, and 3-month old Charles, 54-year-old Sophia A West who may to Evaline's mother, and 17-year-old Joseph Woods, the hired man. The youngest two children are not mentioned the the Johnson County Family Bible records. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Pleasant, Johnson, Indiana, 42-year-old Ohio-born Caleb Tarlton is a prosperous farmer with $28,000 worth of real estate and $1760 worth of personal property. He and his 44-year-old Kentucky-born wife Evaline M [West }Tarlton have in their household their Indiana-born children, 19-year-old John, 18-year-old William, 16-year-old Marcia Eva, 14-year-old James, 10-year-old Charles, and 6-year-old George, and Evaline's mother, 64-year-old Kentucky-born Sophia [maiden name unknown] West. Franklin Daily Herald September 17, 1885, page 8 Mrs. C. B. Tarlton gave a dinner to- day, at which were present, Hervey McCaslin and wife, James A. Tarlton and wife, Mrs. Susie Weightman, Grandma Tarlton and Miss Kate Tarl- ton. They each and all had a good time, and enjoyed themselves well. [Mrs C. B. Tarlton is Evaline West Tarlton, wife of Caleb and mother of Eva Tarlton McCaslin, who is the wife of Hervey McCaslin. James A Tarlton is Eva's brother.] The Franklin Democrat, Friday, December 23, 1898, Volume XXXIX, Number 24, page 1, column 5 Death of Mrs. C. B. Tarlton. After a long illness, Mrs. Tarlton, wife of Capt. C. B. Tarlton, died Monday evening at 9 o’clock at her home on the Greensburg road. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock at the residence conducted by Rev. J. A. Knowlton, pastor of the Baptist church of which church Mrs. Tarlton had long been a devoted member. Burial at Greenlawn. Deceased was born at Georgetown, Ky., August 19, 1824, and came with her parents, M. D. West and wife, to Johnson county in 1830, settling on a farm east of Greenwood. On Nov. 13, 1849, she was united in marriage to C. B. Tarlton, who survives her. To this union were born seven children, six of whom are living, viz: John H., M. W., Mrs H. G. McCaslin, Jas. A. of Indianapolis, Charles W. and George M. One son, Caleb Jr., died in infancy. Mrs. Tarlton had resided in Franklin since 1870. The Franklin Democrat, Friday, December 23, 1898, Volume XXXIX, Number 24, page 3, column 4 GREENWOOD ~ Good many here and near Salem were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Caleb B. Tarlton, mother of M. W. Tarlton, at their old home farm. A good mother gone home to glory. Wm. Tarlton, Sr, and wife and Dault Wilson attended the funeral Wednesday at Franklin.
