Shared note
In the 1850 US Federal Census for Jennings, Scott, Indiana, 25-year-old George W Field is a farmer with $1,200 worth of real estate. He and his 23-year-old wife, Margaret J McCaslin Field, have in their household their children, 3-year-old William W, 2-year-old Eliza Jane and 1-year-old Richard A , her brother 21-year-old Calvin McCaslin and his brother 21-year-old Samuel A Field [sic]. On adjacent farmsteads are the families of 24-year-old James F Fields, 31-year-old William H Fields, 24-year-old Ephraim Field and 50-year-old Rachel Fields, who may be George's brothers and widowed mother. The Field family name appears to use the "s" at will as George's marriage record records his surname as Fields. In the 1860 US Federal Census for Jennings, Scott, Indiana, 36-year-old George W Field is a farmer with no value for real estate recorded but $350 in personal property. He and his 33-year-old wife, Margaret J McCaslin Field, have in their household their children, 14-year-old William W, 11-year-old Alexander [Richard A on the 1850 census], 8-year-old twins Norsena [sic] and Lavina, 6-year-old Amanda, 5-year-old Alonzo and 3-year-old Eldridge. One child on the previous US Federal Census, 2-year-old Eliza Jane, is missing from this census and may be presumed to have died. The Field farmstead is adjacent to that of 26-year-old Greenberg Field (one of George's brothers?) and four farmsteads away from that of Gara Davis and Esther Parker McCaslin Davis, Margaret's aunt.
