Washington Co., KY, on Chaplain Fork of Salt River... by survey 74 acres, being the tract of land that the said Anthony Hundly & Charlotte his wife... sold unto the said Samuel Snodgrass dec'd in his life time... Beginning at a white ash and white oak on the bank of the said fork of Salt River running thence N 61 E 128 poles to a beech & sugartree, thence N 77 to an ash & small hickory Moses Niles NW Corner thence S 35 E 100 poles to two black oak trees thence S 61 E 34 poles to an ash & black oak thence N 86 E 66 poles to a black oak sugar & Elm trees thence E 26 poles to a small sugar & white oak trees thence S 53 E 88 to sugar & Hoop ash trees on the Bank of Chaplains fork thence up the same with the several meanders thereof and being thereon to the beginning... Recorded 4 Jul 1803. In the 1810 US Federal Census for Washington County, Kentucky, Abraham Thixton has in his household one male from 26 to 44 (himself), four females under 10, 2 females from 10 to 15 (his stepdaughters, Charlotte and Margaret Snodgrass) and one female from 26 to 44 (his wife Polly McCaslin Snodgrass Thixton). In the 1820 US Federal Census for Jefferson County, Indiana, Mahlon Gudgel has in his household one male between 16 and 26 years old (himself) and one female between 16 and 26 years old (his wife Charlotte Snodgrass Gudgel). One person is engaged in agriculture. Mahlon and Charlotte are living near Charlotte's uncles, Hugh Snodgrass and John McCaslin as their data is recorded on the same census page. The 1830 US Federal Census for Ridgeveiil, Warren, Ohio records Charlotte Gudgel as head of household, indicating that Mahlon has died. Her household contains two white males under 5 (Milton and William), 2 white males of 5 through 9 (John and Stephen) and one white female 30-40 (herself). In the 1870 US Federal Census for Arispie, Bureau, Illinois, 46-year-old, Indiana-born store clerk John Godgell [sic] and his 49-year-old Ohio-born wife Mary [maiden name unknown} Gudgel have in their household their Illinois-born children, 18-year-old farmer Walter, 16-year-old Grace, 11-year-old Melissa, and 6-year-old Allen, John's mother 74-year-old Kentucky-born Carlotta [sic] [Snodgrass] Gudgel, and 28-year-old Ohio-born farmer John Olenbury. John Gudgel owns $2,400-worth of real estate and $500-worth of personal property. John Olenbury owns $200-worth of personal property. Mary keeps house, the children are "at home" and Charlotte is retired. Grace is blind, but she and Allen have attended school in the past year. John Gudgel and John Olenbury are male citizens of the US who are 21 years or above. Charlotta [sic] Gudgel, aged 83 years, 3 months (days not legible) is buried in Mount Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa, Bureau, Illinois (Find A Grave Memorial# 92745172). Her death year is estimated in Bradsby, H. C., History of Bureau County, Illinois, pp 534-535 and given more exactly in her obituary. Bureau County Republican Thursday, June 12, 1879 Mrs. Gudgel, mother to Wm. G., was buried on last Tuesday at Mt. Bloom. She was born in 1796, and was therefore eighty-five years of age. She had been quite feeble for some years. Her three living sons, W. G., James, and Milton, were at the funeral; besides a host of other relatives. Rev. Wayman officiated at the Baptist church. A large collection of carriages and teams followed the re- mains to the cemetery. AMIDOWN.
