In the 1860 US Federal Census for Clark, Johnson, Indiana, 30-year-old [sic] Indiana-born farmer Joseph and his 25-year-old Germany-born [sic] wife Sara [Friker] Hemphill have in their household 12-year-old David, 10-year-old Hannah, 8-year-old Jane, 6-year-old Augusta, 4-year-old Savana and 2-year-old Elizabeth. In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, Joseph, a 46-year-old farmer, and his 38-year-old wife, Sarah A [Friker] Hemphill, have a passel of children in their family; 17-year-old Nancy J, 16-year-old Louisa A, 13-year-old Sorena, 12-year-old Sarah, 10-year-old Josephine, 7-year-old John S, 6-year-old William, and 1-year-old Itura [?]. Also in this large household are Joseph's parents, 73-year-old [sic] Samuel and 73-year-old Mary [McCaslin] Hemphill. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Clark, Johnson, Indiana, 28-year-old Indiana-born laborer Royal [John Royal] and his 27-year-old Indiana-born wife Nancy [Hemphill] Logan have in their household their Indiana-born children, 5-year-old Addie E and 4-year-old Ora L. Royal is illiterate. Royal's parents were born in Kentucky; Nancy's parents were born in Indiana; the children's parents were born in Indiana In the 1900 US Federal Census for Clark, Johnson, Indiana, 48-year-old Indiana-born farmer Royal [John Royal] and his 46-year-old Indiana-born wife Nancy J [Hemphill] Logan have been married for 27-years and have had three children, all are living. The only child living with them is 15-year-old Indiana-born Clifford A who has attended school in the past year. Royal is farming rented land. Everyone can speak English. Royal is illiterate, but both Nancy and Clifford can read and write. Royal's parents were born in Kentucky; Nancy's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Pennsylvania; Clifford's parents were born in Indiana. Obituary Franklin Evening Star, Franklin, Indiana Monday August 4, 1919 Mrs. Royal Logan Dead Mrs. Nancy Jane Logan, wife of the late Royal Logan, died at the home of her son, Ora Logan, in Needham Township Sunday evening at 6:30 o'clock [3 Aug 1919] following a six day illness from blood poisoning. Mrs. Logan was 67 years old and was born and spent her entire life in Johnson County. She was born June 11, 1852 and was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Fraker Hemphill. August 23, 1873, she married Royal Logan of the Hurricane neighborhood, who died April 17, 1913, following an illness from paralysis. To Mr. and Mrs. Logan three children were born, one of whom, Clifford, died at the age of 19 years. The other children who survive are Mrs. Etta Wild and Ora Logan. Mrs. Logan was a member of the Rathbone order of the K of P Lodge at Greenwood and a member of the Community Church of the Hurricane Community. The funeral services will be held at the 2nd Mt. Pleasant Church Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by the Rev. G. C. Chandler. Burial will be in the 2nd Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
