In the 1870 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, James W McCaslin is a 36-year-old gardener with $4,000 in real estate and $300 in personal property. He and his 28-year-old wife Lutitia (Vandivier) have two daughters, 5-year-old Viola N and 3-year-old Anna E. Also in their household is James' 15-year-old nephew, James W Carr, a day laborer As shown in the 1880 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson County Indiana, Anna E McCaslin, age 13 and "working in the family," is living with her uncle (John H. Canary, a 55-year-old farmer), her aunt (Mary J Vandivier Canary, age 58 and keeping house), her cousin (Milo R Canary, a 17-year-old farm laborer) and her grandfather (James Vandivier, a 79-year-old farmer). Both of her parents have died. Her sister, Viola Naoma, is living with an aunt, Nancy Vandivier Green, and her brother is living with another aunt, Susan Vandiver McDaniel. The McCaslin heirs mentioned are the children of Peter's sister, Lutisha Vandivier and James W McCaslin, namely Viola Naoma, Anna E and William Elbert McCaslin. Anna E McCaslin married Cameron L Merriman on 17 Mar 1892 in Johnson County, Indiana. The Franklin Democrat, Friday, March 18, 1892 page 1 column 2 The marriage of Miss Anna McCas- lin to C.L. Merriman occurred last eve- ning at the bride's home south of the city. The young people will go to House-keeping in thie city. Mr. Mer- riman expects to enter college the spring term. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Franklin, Johnson, Indiana, 29-year-old Cameron L Merriman is a minister. He and his 33-year-old wife Anna have been married eight years and have had three children but only one is living, 3-year-old Helen. The family is living in a rented house on North Edwards. Franklin is still small enough that there are no house numbers. Cameron's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Germany. In the 1910 US Federal Census, 39-year-old Cameron L Merriman has moved his ministry to Adam, Parke, Indiana. He and his 43-year-old wife Anna have been married eighteen years and have had four children, but only one is living, 13-year-old school girl Helen. The family is living is a rented house with no street address given. In the 1913 Frankfort, Indiana City directory, page 189, the Merriman Brothers (C L and J P Merriman have a real estate and insurance business. Their business address is First National Bank Building and their phone is 164. Cameron L Merriman (of Merriman Brothers), his wife Anna E Merriman and their daughter Helen (student) are living at 463 S Main, phone 1905. J Paul Merriman (of Merriman Brothers) and his wife Mamie E Merriman are living at 3 Freeman, phone 1903. On pages 194-195 in the same directory, Cameron L Merriman is recorded as being in business as a real estate agent at 56-1/2 E Washington. He, his wife Anna E Merriman and their daughter Helen live at 951 E South. J Paul Merriman is recorded as being in the real estate business at 14-1/2 N Main. He and his wife Mamie are living at 959 Given, phone 164. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Frankfort, Clinton, Indiana, 48-year-old Cameron L Merriman has changed vocations. He is now a real estate agent. He and his 52-year-old wife Anna E [McCaslin] and their 23-year-old daughter Helen are living at 951 East Boone Street in a house they own that still has a mortgage. All the Merrimans can read and write. I have not been able to find either Cameron or Anna [McCaslin] Merriman in the 1930 US Federal Census or in any City Directories after 1913. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Indiana, Indiana, Pennsylvania, 73-year-old, Indiana-born widow Anna [McCaslin] Merriman is head of a household containing her daughter, 43-year-old, Indiana-born Helen C Merriman. They are living in a rented house at 525 School Street. They were living in the same place in 1935 and were not resident on a farm. Both have completed two years of college. Anna is a housewife who is not seeking work. Helen is a teacher at Indiana State College, has worked eight hours in the past week and 36 weeks in 1939, earning $2,600. Neither has a source of outside income. Anna E McCaslin Merriman died 22 Mar 1961 in Indiana, Indiana, Pennsylvania, and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Section Pine Row 21 Stone 15, Franklin, Johnson, Indiana. Obituary-Indiana Evening Gazette, Thursday, March 23, 1961, page 10, column 7. MRS. ANNA E MERRIMAN OF 525 School St., Indiana, passed away Wednesday evening at 9:15. She was born December 29, 1866, in the state of Indiana. Mrs. Merriman came to Indiana, Pa. the fall of 1933 and has since made her home with her daughter, Helen C. Merriman. Her husband, Rev. Cameron L. Merriman died November, 1933, in Franklin, In- diana. Surviving are her daughter, Hel- en C Merriman, a member of the Home Economics Faculty at the lo- cal State College, and two nieces, Mrs. Marilyn Rose of San Fernan- do, Calif., and Mrs. Virginia Ken- nedy [sic] of Franklin, Indiana. Friends will be received at the Hill Funeral Home from Thursday evening at 7:00 until the services at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. James Burnett Reid will officiate and interment will be made in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Indiana. Ninety-four-year-old Anna Elizabeth Merriman died 22 Mar 1961 at 525 School Street, Indiana, Pennsylvania of broncho-pneumonia due to circulatory collapse and arthitis-deformans of one month's duration. Her doctor was J. W. Campbell of 923 Phila. St, Indiana, Pennsylvania. She was female, white, widowed (spouce's name Cameron L. Merriman) and a housewife, born 29 Dec 1866 in Franklin, Indiana to James McCaslin and Lutricia Vandivier. The informant was her daughter Helen C. Merriman of Indiana, Pennsylvania. Her body was cremated on 27 Mar 1961 and the ashes buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana. The funeral director was Thos. L Hill of 661 Church St.
