In the 1810 US Federal Census for Township Not Stated, Shelby, Kentucky, David McCaslin has in his household three males under 10 (Newton, Hervey and David), two males 10 through 15 (Richard and Andrew), two males 16 through 25 (James and George), one male 26 through 44 (himself), one female under 10 (Peggy) , one female 10 through 15 (Elizabeth), one female 16 through 25 (?), and one female 26 through 44 (his wife Esther Baker Shillideay McCaslin) George McCasland and Rachel Laws were married 5 Sep 1814 in Shelby County, Kentucky. In the 1820 US Federal Census for Jennings County, Indiana, George McCaslin has in his household three males under 10 (Joseph H, David and Lemuel), one female under 10 (Anzeline), and one female 26 to 45 (his wife Rachael Laws McCaslin) In the 1830 US Federal Census for Montgomery, Jennings, Indiana, George McCaslin has in his household three males under 5 (George William, John aka J.F.C and Andrew), two males 5 to 10 (David and Jeremiah), two males 10 to 15 (Joseph and Lemuel), one male 40 to 50 (himself), one female under 5 (Alminda), one female 10 to 15 (Anzeline) and one female 30 to 40 (his wife Rachael Laws McCaslin). McCaslin-Wykoff marriage dispute Azeline McCaslon [sic] was underage when she married James Wykoff Jr, and her father, George Shillideay McCaslin, brought action against the clerk of the Jennings County Court, John Walker, who issued the license. The document, transcribed below, records the settlement of that suite. August Term 1833 George McCaslon vz In debt John Walker Now at this day comes the parties by their Attornies and on motion this cause is dismissed at defendants cost, and by agreement the following release is put into an [sic] record To wit I George McCaslon of the County of Jennings and the State of Indiana for value by me recieved [sic]; do hereby release discharge and acquit John Walker Clerk of the Jennings Circuit Court from all liability me, or any person for my use for and an account of his having issued License as clerk of said Court to marry James Wykoff Junr to my daughter Anzeline McCaslon who was under the age of eighteen years & I do hereby release him from the action now pending for that cause and from all causes of action for the same. Given under my hand & seal this 28th day of August 1833 George McCaslon (seal) List Jer Sullivan _ _ _ _ _ _ Civil Order Book 1, 1822 - 1837, page 331 at the Jennings County, Indiana Courthouse. In the 1840 US Federal Census for Lancaster, Jefferson, Indiana George McAslin [McCaslin] has in his household one male under 5 years [Walter Allen], two males 5 to 10 years [Henry Wasson and Richard M], two males between 10 and 15 years [Alexander W and John Finley C], two males between 15 and 20 [George William, Jeremiah Newton], two males between 20 and 30 years [Lemuel and David, Joseph H has married], one male between 50 and 60 years [himself], one female under five years [unknown], one female between 5 and 10 years [Kessy J (Hessy)], one female between 10 and 15 years [Almanda], one female between 15 and 20 years [unknown] and one female between 40 and 50 years [George's wife, Rachel Laws]. In the 1850 US Federal Census for Smyrna, Jefferson, Indiana, 60-year-old farmer George McCasland [McCaslin] owns property worth $3600. He and his 54-year-old wife Rachel [Law] McCasland [McCaslin] have in their household their younger children, 19-year-old Hessy J, 17-year-old Richard, 16-year-old Henry, and 12-year-old Walter. Their son, 28-year-old farmer Jermiah, his 20-year-old wife Elizabeth A, and their children 4-year-old Mary A and 2-year-old Louisa W are living on the next farmstead. Since Jerimiah and all the other children were born in Indiana, the McCaslin family must have moved there before 1823. This fact helped me find the 1820 Census showing them living in Jennings County, Indiana. In the 1860 US Federal Census for Vernon, Jackson, Indiana, 70-year-old Kentucky-born farmer George McCasland owns real estate worth $900 and personal property worth $250. He and his 64-year-old Kentucky-born wife Rachael [Laws] McCasland have in their household their son, 40-year-old Indiana-born day laborer Lemuel, and Lemuel's two children, their 8-year-old Indiana-born grandchildren (who appear to be twins), George and Catherine.
