Margarette has born two children, but only one is living, 9-year-old Indiana-born Paul. The family is living in a rented house at 121-1/2 McCarty St. Paul has attended school in the past year. Harry is a clerk in a retail store, Margarette a professional dressmaker. Harry and Margarette are literate and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Indianapolis, Marion, Indiana, 43-year-old Indiana-born Frank Mayo and his 38-year-old Indiana-born wife Margaret [Hauk Hemphill] Mayo have in their household Margaret's 18-year-old Indiana-born son Paul Hemphill, and a roomer, 20-year-old Indiana-born Harry Moore. This household is living at 1210 North Kealing Street in a house that Frank own, free of mortgage. Paul has attended school in the past year. Frank is a manager's assistant in clothes[sic]; Margaret is a felter in a garment shop; Harry is a post office mail clerk. Everyone is literate and speaks English. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Burnt Prairie, White, Illinois, 39-year-old, Indiana-born Paul Hemphill and his 39-year-old, Illinois-born wife Weltha [McCollough] Hemphill are living in a house that Paul owns worth $300. Paul has completed two years of high school, but Weltha has completed only one year of high school. In 1935, they were living in rural Cumberland County, Illinois, but not on a farm. Paul is employed as a driller-helper, has worked 42 hours in the past week and 52 weeks in the past year, earning wages or salary of $1,500. Weltha is a housewife, and is not looking for work.
