In the 1910 US Federal Census for Charlestown, Clark, Indiana, 43-year-old Indiana-born unmarried farmer John L Bottorff is head of a household which contains his 52-year-old Indiana-born widowed cousin Fannie Hemphill [sic], his niece, 17-year-old Indiana-born niece Ursul Bottorff, his cousin, Fannie's son, 29-year-old Indiana-born Rosco Hemphill and Rosco's wife 29-year-old Kentucky-born Alevia [Dyer] Hemphill. Fannie is working as a servant for a private family. She has borne three children and all are living [sic]. Rosco and Alevia have been married two years. Alevia has borne no children. All are literate and speak English. John's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Indiana; Fannie's parents were born in the United States [sic]; Ursule's and Rosco's parents were born in Indiana; Alevia's father was born in Alabama and her mother in Kentucky. Thirty-two-year-old Alevia B Hemphill died 23 Jul 1913 at her home, 1226 Garland Ave, Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky, of carbolic acid poisoning due to melancohlia. The coronor, Ellis Duncan, ruled it suicide. She was female, white, a widow, born 24 Jan 1881 to William H Dyer (born in Alabama) and Mildred A Howard (born in Kentucky). The informant was Winslow H Dyer of 1239 S 7th Street. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery on 25 Jul 1913.
