In the 1900 US Federal Census for Frenchburg, Menifee, Kentucky, 45-year-old Kentucky-born Alvin Langworthy and his 40-year-old Kentucky-born wife Mary E [Barker] Langworthy have been married twenty-four years. Mary has born seven children, but only five are living. Four of these five children, all Kentucky-born, are living with them. They are 17-year-old John D, 11-year-old Della B [sic this is Lila], 6-year-old Sarah E and one-year-old Ray L.[sic] Alvin is a blacksmith and John is a day laborer. John and Lila have attended school five months of the past year. Everyone except Sarah and Ray can read, write and speak English. Everyone's parents were born in Kentucky. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Middletown, Butler, Ohio, 30-year-old Kentucky-born James Ingram and his 25-year-old Kentucky born wife Ethel [Langsworty] Ingram have in their household their Kentucky-born children, 5-year-old Lawrence and 2-month old James A, and Ethel's widowed mother and single sister, 62-year-old Kentucky-born Mary [Barker] Langsworthy and 17-year-old Kentucky-born Mabel. The family is living in a rented house at 426-1/2 Third Street. next door to Ethel's brother John Langworthy and his family. Neither Lawrence nor Mabel have attended school in the past year. Everyone except the two youngest children is literate and can speak English. James is a retail merchant, the owner of a grocery store; Mary is a laborer in a "tobacco works"; and Mabel is a saleslady in the grocery store. Everyone's parents were born in Kentucky.
