In the 1910 US Federal Census for Grant, Stone, Missouri, 44-year-old Arkansas-born Jessee [sic] C Lane and his 45-year-old Missouri-born wife Dora [sic LaDora Torbitt] have been married sixteen years. LaDora has born three children and all are living. These three Missouri-born children are 14-year-old Uel M, 11-year-old Edgar and 6-year-old Willis E, who have all attended school in the past year.. Also in the household is a boarder, 28-year-old Arkansas-born school teacher May Allen. The family is living on a farm on Marionville and Crane Road, which Jesse owns, free of mortgage. In addition to the farm, Jesse is the owner of a General Store. Everyone can read, write and speak English except Willis. Jesse's father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Arkansas; LaDora's parents were born in Tennessee; the children's father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri; May's parents were born in Arkansas. On 9 Sep 1918, when 20-year-old Clinton Edgar Lane registers for the WWI Draft, he states that his address in Crane, Stone, Missouri, that he was born 7 Aug 1898 and that is a white, native born citizen. He is attending Drury College. His nearest relative is his father J C Lane of Crane, Stone, Missouri. He is tall, slender with brown eyes and dark brown hair. He has no physical conditions which would disqualify him for the military. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Pierce, Stone Missouri, 53-year-old Arkansas-born J.C. Lane and his 39-year-old Missouri-born second wife Mary [Cloud] Lane have in their household the Missouri-born children of Jesse's first marriage to LaDora Torbitt, 23-year-old widower Uel, 21-year-old Edgar and 16-year-old Willis, and their 2-year-old Missouri-born grandson, Harold, who is the sone of Uel and an unknown. Jesse is the owner of a dry goods store, Uel is a clerk in that store and Edgar is a railroad brakeman. None of the children have attended school in the past year. Everyone but Harold is literate and can speak English. Jesse's father was born in Missouri and his mother in Arkansas; Mary's parents were born in Missouri; Uel, Edgar and Willis' father was born in Arkansas and their mother in Missouri; Harold's father was born in Missouri and his mother in Colorado [? written over]. Clinron Edgar Lane, born 1918, died 1925 and was buried in Crane Old Town Cemetery. His tombstone reads C. Edgar Lane, PVT C.A.T.C. [Company A, Tank Corps, 68th Armour Regiment] and has a Mason's symbol.
