"Babe" Branigin Law Scholarship, Franklin College, Franklin, Johnson, Indiana SCHOLARSHIP BACKGROUND The Elba L. "Babe" Branigin Law Scholarship carries the name of one person, but in a way, recognizes the achievements and hard work of two people who were important to the city of Franklin and to Franklin College. Elba Branigin was a community leader, an attorney in the city of Franklin, and was elected chair of the Franklin College Board of Trustees in 1965. He was still serving as chair when he died five years later. The scholarship in his name was established by his wife, Gene Branigin, who was also a respected member of the Franklin community. Gene Branigin was elected to the College's board of trustees in 1970 and served as chair of the student affairs committee. She was named an associate alumna in 1974.
