Shared note
In the 1900 US Federal Census for Township 12, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, 27-year-old Arkansas-born farmer James B and his 39-year-old Arkansas-born wife Melvina M [McCaslin Johnson] Lane have been married eight years. Melvina has borne six children, four are living [one of these dead children may be from her first marriage to Alexander Johnson]. They have three children in their household, 6-year-old Arkansas-born Mary I [sic], 5-year-old Arkansas-born Jennie D and a new-born unnamed daughter [Ona] who was born in Indian Territory. James is farming rented land and has had no months unemployed in the past year. James and Melvina can read, write and speak English. Six-year-old Mary has not attended school in the past year. Derived from their children's birth places, the Lanes move from Arkansas to Indian Territory after 1895 but before 1900. James' father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Missouri; Melvina's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Missouri; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. The Lanes are living next to Melvina's cousin David McCaslin and his family. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Creek, Wagoner, Oklahoma, 39-year-old Arkansas-born farmer James B and his 50-year-old Arkansas-born wife Manerva [sic] [McCaslin Johnson] Lane have been married 18 years. This is a first marriage for James, but a second for Minerva. Minerva has borne seven children, but only five are living. Three of these children are living with them, 15-year-old Arkansas-born Jannie [sic], 10-year-old Oklahoma-born Onie [sic] and 6-year-old Sarih [sic]. Jennie and Ona have attended school in the past year. Everyone except Sarah can read, write and speak English. James is farming rented land. James' parents were born in the United States [sic]; Minerva's parents in Missouri [sic]; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Creek, Wagoner, Oklahoma, 48-year-old Arkansas-born farmer James B and his 59-year-old Arkansas-born wife Melvina M[McCaslin Johnson] Lane have in their household their two youngest Oklahoma-born children, 18-year-old [sic] Ona D and 15-year-old Sarah E. Ona and Sarah have attended school in the past year. Everyone can read, write and speak English. James is doing "general farming" on rented land. James' father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Kansas [sic]; Melvina's parents were born in Missouri [sic]; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. Forrest Cook and Ona F [sic] Lane applied for a marriage license in Wagoner County, Oklahoma on 24 Dec 1920. Ona D Cook applied for her Social Security number in Missouri before 1951. Ona D [Lane] Cook, born 30 Jun 1900, died 26 Dec 1988 and was buried in Ozarks Memorial Park, Section 4, Row 4, Branson, Taney, Missouri. Her last residence was Branson, Taney, Missouri 65616.
