In the 1920 US Federal Census for Modesto, Ceres, Stanilaus, California, 42-year-old Missouri-born Frank and his 32-year-old Verl [Inez Verl Rice] Elkins have in their household their California-born sons 14-year-old Floyd and 11-year-old Rolland [sic]. Frank and Roland have attended school in the past year. Frank is a stock dealer and farmer. Everyone can read, write and speak English. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Modesto, Stanislaus, California, 48-year-old Missouri-born Policeman Frank and his 48-year-old California-born wife I Verl [Inez Verl Rice] Elkins were married when he was 25- and she was 18-years old. They have in their household their California-born children, 21-year-old orchestra musician Roland and 10-year-old schoolboy Frank C [sic]. His wife Mrs. Ines Verl Elkins is a housewife and declines to state her political affiliation. They are living at 234 Yosemite and voting in Modesto No 25 Precinct. In their next registration information (page 621), Frank Elkins is a policeman and Mrs Inez Verl Elkins is a housewife, their son Roland is a sign painter. All are Democrats and living at 628-2nd Street in Modesto Precinct No. 25. Their next registration in Modesto Precinct No. 29 on page 900 shows the family living at the same address, but does not give their professions. In the California Voter Registrations for 1934-1938, Modesto No. 23 Precinct (page 181) shows Roland Elkins, sign painter and Democrat, living at 923 7th. Living at the same residence is Mrs Olive Elkins, landlady and Republican, who may be Roland's wife. But the next registration on page 900, shows that Roland Elkins, musician, has joined his parents at 406 Yosemite. Frank is still a policeman and Inez a housewife. All are Democrats. In the California Voter Registrations for 1940-1944, on page 122, Frank Elkins, farmer, Mrs Inez V Elkins, housewife, and their son Roland Elkins, sign painter are living at Rt 5 Box 332, Modesto, Stanislaus, California in Jolliff Precinct. All are Democrats. The same is true for the next two entries on page 130 and 486.
