In the 1900 US Federal Census for Upper, Crawford, Arkansas, 40-year-old Indiana-born farmer James M and his 41-year-old Arkansas-born wife Josephine [maiden name unknown] Parr have been married for 28 years and have had eight children, seven are living. These Arkansas-born children are 16-year-old farm laborer Charles I, 14-year-old farm laborer John M, 12-year-old Zillah, 10-year-old James A, 7-year-old David B, 3-year-old Lydda A and one-year-old Zenia. James is farming rented land. James, Josephine, Charles, John, and Zilliah can read, write and speak English. James can only speak English. None of the chidren have attended school in the past year. James' parents were born in Indiana [sic]; Josie's father in Tennessee [sic] and her mother in Missouri; the chidren's father was born in Indiana and their mother in Arkansas. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Upper, Crawford, Arkansas, 50-year-old Illinois-born [sic] farmer James M and his 50-year-old Arkansas-born wife Josephine [maiden name unknown] Parr have been married for 28 years and have had nine children, eight are living. Four of these eight Arkansas-born children are living with them, 20-year-old farm laborer Arthur, 14-year-old Liddie A, 11-year-old Zenia and 6-year-old Maggie. Liddie and Zenia have attended school in the past year. James, Liddie and Maggie can read and write, while Josephine and Arthur cannot. Everyone speaks English. James is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. James' father's birthplace is left blank and his mother's birthplace is Iowa; Josephine's mother was born in Missouri and her father in Arkansas; the children's father was born in Illinois and their mother in Arkansas. On 2 Dec 1915, 24-year-old Jerry Allen and 17-year-old Zenie Parr, both of Armada, Crawford, Arkansas, applied for a marriage license in Crawford County, Arkansas. Ther were married by J A Hopkins, Justice of the Peace, on 5 Dec 1915. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Upper, Crawford, Arkansas, 28-year-old Arkansas-born J M [sic] and his 20-year-old Arkansas-born wife Zena [sic] [Parr] Allen have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 3-year 3-month old Emerson [sic] and one-year 6-month old Elmer [sic]. Jerry is farming rented land. He and Zenia can read, write and speak English. Jerry's and the children's parents were born in Arkansas; Zenia's parents were born in the United States. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Cove City, Crawford, Arkansas, 38-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Jerry M [sic] and his 31-year-old Arkansas-born wife Zena [sic] [Parr] Allen were married when he was 24- and she was 17-years old. They have in their household their Arkansas-born children, 13-year-old Emerson D, 11-year-old Elmer V [sic], 9-year-old Willie J [sic], 7-year-old Finis E, and 4-year 7-month old Hazel A. The family is living in a rented house for which Jerry pays $6 a month in rent. All the children except Finis and Hazel have attended school in the past year. Jerry, Zenia, Emerson and Elmer can read, write and speak English. Jerry has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Jerry's father was born in Arkansas and his mother in Tennessee; Zenia's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Arkansas; the children's parents were born in Arkansas. Fifty-three-year-old Zena Delana Parr Allen applies for her Social Security Number on 17 Mar 1952. She states that she was born 10 Mar 1899 in Aramada, Crawford, Arkansas, that her father was James Monroe Parr and her mother Edna Josephine Prine.
