Shared note
Twenty-five year old Oregon-born laborer Elmer Elkins, his 20-year-old Missouri-born wife, Netty [Niday] Elkins and their two Arkansas-born children, 4-year-old Maggie and 1-year-old Ina [sic] are listed in the 1892 Washington State Census for Thurston County. The birth of Ina in Arkansas in 1891 would indicate that the family had moved to Washington State within the past year. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Lucerne, Kings, California, 33-year-old Oregon-born Elmer and his 28-year-old Arkansas-born wife Mettie [sic] [Niday] Elkins have been married 14-years and have had two children, both are living. These Arkansas-born children are 12-year-old Maggie and 8-year-old Iney [sic]. Also in this household is Netty's 20-year-old Washington-born sister, Rose Niday. The family is living in a rented house. Maggie and Iney have attended school in the past year, Maggie for 7-months and Iney for 8-months. Elmer, Netty, Rose and Maggie can read, write and speak English. Elmer is a section foreman. Elmer's parents were born in Virginia [sic]; Netty and Rose's father was born in Iowa and their mother in Indiana; Maggie and Iney's father was born in Oregon and their mother in Arkansas. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Township 15, Contra Costa, California, 38-year-old Illinois-born Frank and his 22-year-old Arkansas-born wife Maggie [Elkins] Dillon have been married five years and have had no children. They are living in a rented house. Frank is a "guager" [sic gauger?] for an oil company and has had no months out of work. Both Frank and Maggie can read, write and speak English. Frank's father was born in Illinois and his mother in Indiana; Maggie's father was born in Oregon and her mother in Missouri. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, 47-year-old Illinois-born farmer Frank B and his 32-year-old Arkansas-born wife Maggie M [Elkiins] Dillion have in their household Maggie's mother, 49-year-old Missouri-born Mettie [sic] [Niday Elkins] Cleveland and her daughter 9-year-old Indiana-born Georgia Cleveland who has attended school in the past year. Frank is doing "general farmng" on rented land. Everyone can read, write and speak English. Frank's father was born in Illinois and his mother in Indiana; Maggie's father was born in Oregon and her mother in Missouri, Mettie's father was born in Iowa and her mother in Indiana; Gertrude's father was born in Indiana and her mother in Missouri. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Anaheim, Orange, California, 57-year-old Illinois-born Frank B and his 39-year-old Arkansas-born wife Margaret M [Elkins] Dillon were married when he was 37- and she was 19-years old [sic This would mean that they were married in 1910, and in 1910 they had been married five years]. They are living in a rented house at 303 Chestron [?] for which Frank pays $45 a month rent. Frank is an "oil gauger" for an oil company and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Both Frank and Margaret can read, write and speak English. Frank's parents were born in Indiana [sic]; Margaret's father was born in Oregon and her mother in Missouri. After Frank Dillon died in 1933, Margaret [Elkins] Dillon married Orilus Osborne Allen in about 1935. in the 1940 US Federal Census for Whittier, Los Angeles, California 69-year-old, West Virginia-born O O Allen and his 52-year old, Washington-born [sic] wife Margaret [Elkins Dillon] Allen are living on a farm in a home valued at $7,000 which he owns. They were borh living in Fullerton, Orange, California in 1935. Their 1935 residence was not on a farm. Orilus had completed the eighth grade, whereas Margaret had completed two years of college. Neither of them have a job or are looking for work so they have no salary. However, they both do have another source of income. Orilus gave the census taker the information. It appears that they own an avacado ranch which they rent to other farmers.
