In the 1870 US Federal Census for Linn, Christian, Missouri, 30-year-old Missouri-born [sic] farmer laborer Robert and his 30-year-old Missouri-born [sic] wife Francis [sic transcribed as Thomas] [Prior Hudson] McCaslin have in their household Frances' Missouri-born children by her first marriage to William Hudson, 10-year-old Mary and 8-year-old William Hudson [last name recorded as McCaslin] and their son 4-year-old Missouri-born Thomas McCaslin. Robert and Frances are illiterate. Robert has no property of value. In the 1880 US Federal Census for Turnback, Lawrence, Missouri, 48-year-old Indian Nation-born farmer R [Robert] McCaslin and his 39-year-old Missouri-born wife Francis [sic] [Prior Hudson] McCaslin have in their household Frances' 17-year-old Missouri-born farm laborer son William C Hudson, who the census taker recorded as McCaslin, their two Missouri-born sons, 15-year-old farm laborer Thomas J and 6-year-old John Wesley, and Frances' widowed mother, 77-year-old North Carolina-born Elizabeth [Garner] Prior. William and Thomas have attended school in the past year, but cannot read or write. Robert and Frances are also illiterate. Robert's parents were born in Indiana. Frances' parents were born in North Carolina. The children's parents were born in Missouri [sic]. The birthplace of Elizabeth's parents is unknown. The Certificate of Marriage is filed on 29 Aug 1887 at 12 o'clock by William Fairburn, Recorder and Jno [sic] L Lester, Deputy. In the 1900 US Federal Census for Mountain, Barry, Missouri, 24-year-old Missouri-born farmer John W and his 24-year-old Missouri-born wife Sarah H [maiden name unknown] McCasling have been married seven years and have had one child, who is dead. Living with them are John's father 67-year-old Indian Territory-born Robert McCasling and John's mother 61-year-old Missouri-born Francis [sic] [Pryor Hudson] McCasling who have been married 34 years. Francis is recorded as having had ten children from her two marriages, but only four are living [I can only account for five, the three Hudson children and John and Thomas] John's household is recorded as living on a farm. Living next door in a house, is John's brother Thomas McCasling and his family. Thirty-two-year-old Missouri-born farm laborer Thomas and his 29-year-old Missouri-born wife Mary J [Atwell] McCasling have been married 13 years and have had five children, three are living. These three Missouri-born children are 12-year-old Lizzie, 8-year-old John W and 2-year-old Stellia. All the adults in these two households are illiterate although they all speak English. The only person who can read, write and speak English is Lizzie, who has attended school in the past year. Robert's father was born in Indiana and his mother in Tennessee, Francis' parents were born in North Carolina, John W and Thomas' parents (Robert and Francis' children) were born in Indian Territory and Missouri, respectively, and everyone else's parents were born in Missouri. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Buck Prairie, Lawrence, Missouri, 42-year-old Missouri-born widower Tom J McCasling [sic] has in his household his Missouri-born children, 20-year-old Lizzie McCaslin Forrester, 17-year-old Will W [sic John W on the 1900 census], 6-year-old Bertha M, 4-year-old Golda M, 2-year-old Ollie, and 9-month old Willis, Lizzie's husband 23-year Missouri-born Finis Forrester [transcribed as Ferster], and Lizzie and Finis' Missouri-born children 2-year-old Henry and 7-month old Fanny. Finis and Lizzie have been married four years and have had two children who are recorded in this household. Tom owns the land he is farming but it has a mortgage. Will and Finis are laborers on Tom's farm. Tom, Will and Finis have had no months out of work in the past year. Everyone speaks English. Tom is illiterate, Lizzie, Will and Finis can read and write. No one has attended school in the past year. Tom's father was born in Arkansas and his mother in the United States. Lizzie, Will, Bertha, Golda, and Willis' parents were born in Missouri. Finis' father was born in Tennessee and his mother in Missouri. Henry and Fanny's father was born in Tennessee and their mother in Missouri [sic both parents were born in Missouri]. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Ozark, Barry, Missouri, 52-year-old Arkansas-born farmer Tomas [sic] J McCaslin [sic] has in his household his Arkansas-born children, 18-year-old Bertha J [sic], 16-year-old Goldie M, 13-Ollie M, and 9-year-old Willis J. Living next door is Thomas' son 27-year-old Missouri-born farm laborer Wesley [John Wesley], Wesley's 19-year-old Missouri-born wife Dovie [sic] [Heatherly] McCaslin [sic] and their son 2-year 3-month old Missouri-born William. Everyone except Willis and William can read and write. Ollie and Willis have attended school in the past year. Thomas' father was born in Arkansas and his mother in North Carolina. Everyone else's parents were born in Missouri except Dovie. Dovie's parents are recorded as being born in the United States. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Ozark, Barry, Missouri, 68-year-old [sic] Arkansas-born widower Tom [sic] McCaslin [sic] has in his household his Arkansas-born children, 28-year-old Missouri-born divorce Bertha J [McCaslin] Shaffer, and 20-year-old Willis, and Bertha's Missouri-born children, 5-year-old Dortha and 1-year-old Zelba [Zelda?]. Tom was married when he was 21-years old. Bertha was married when she was 18-years old. Tom and Willis are illiterate. Tom is a farmer, farming rented land. Willis is a share cropper. Everyone's parents were born in Missouri. Missouri-born Thomas J McCaslin died of coronary thrombosis 16 Feb 1953 on RR 3, Concord, Miami, Ohio, where he had been living for 60 days. His usual residence was RR 1, Cape Fair, Stone Missouri. He was male, white, widowed, and 85-years, 2-months and 6-days old. His usual occupation was farming. His father's name was McCaslin and his mother's Mary Jane Atwell [sic, this is his wife's name]. He was buried at Marrs Hill [sic] Cemetery, Lawrence County [sic], Missouri on 21 Feb 1953.
