Also in this household are Newton's 63-year-old Missouri-born widowed mother, Sarah [Lewis] McCaslin, Newton's 19-year-old Arkansas-born farm laborer nephew Charles S Johnson [son of Alexander Johnson and Newton's sister Melvina McCaslin] and Newton's 77-year-old Missouri-born widowed great uncle, Benjamin Hobaugh. Sarah Lewis McCaslin has borne four children but only two are living. Everyone's parents were born in Arkansas, except Sarah's and Benjamin's. Their parents were born in Kentucky. Three of these Arkansas-born children are living with them, 21-year-old Thomas H, 18-year-old James W, and 14-year-old Mellie M. Only Mellie has attended school in the past year.
