In 1893, it had 2 churches and a planning mill. It was platted as Porterville, but was renamed Blair in 1873 in honor of John Insley Blair, the railroad tycoon.

[James Harding] Brown and his wife 27-year-old Massachusetts-born Ellen [Eleanora Fay] have in their household their two Wisconsin-born children, Charles (age 6) and Delia (born Aug 1869). Delia's death was accidental. Charles and Delia were playing around a small lumber pile and it fell over on her.
