In the 1900 US Federal Census for German, Marshall, Indiana, 23-year-old Indiana-born farmer Daniel A and his 19-year-old Indiana-born wife Nancy [Schlemmer] Miller have been married one year and have had one child, their 8-month old Indiana-born son Anthony. Daniel and Nancy can read, write and speak English. Daniel's father was born in Indiana, and his mother in Germany, Nancy's parents were born in Indiana, as were Anthony's. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Madison, St Joseph, Indiana, 32-year-old Indiana-born farmer Daniel A and his 29-year-old Indiana-born wife Nancy [Schlemmer] Miller have been married eleven years and have had four Indiana-born children, all are living. These children are 10-year-old Anthony, 8-year-old Estella, 7-year-old Edwin and 3-year-old Harvey. Also in this household is Daniel's widower brother, 29-year-old Christopher P Miller, who is working as a farm laborer. Daniel owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage. Daniel, Nancy, Christopher, Anthony and Estella read, write and speak English. Anthony, Estella and Edwin have attended school in the past year. Daniel and Christopher have had no months out of work in the past year. Daniel and Christopher's father was born in Pennsylvania [sic] and their mother in Germany, Nancy's parents were born in Indiana as were the children's parents. His occupation is farming and he works for Marion Pickral [sic] at RR#3, Bocusase [? illegible], Indiana. His nearest relative is his father Daniel Miller of RR#2, Austin, Scott, Indiana. His description is medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He has no disabilities which would preclude his service in the military. Scott County Journal, Scottsburg, Indiana. Jan. 3, 1923: Miss Irene McCaslin 18, daughter of Mrs. Daisy Burkhart of Johnson twp, became the bride of Anthony Daniel Miller, 23, of South Bend, Ind at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Hardy on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Rev. O. A. Trinkle performed the ceremony. The bride is... the daughter of the late Bert McCaslin. Groom is an electrician in Wakarusa near South Bend. In the 1930 US Federal Census for Wabash, Adams, Indiana 30-year-old Indiana-born Anthony D and his 26-year-old Indiana-born wife Irene E [McCaslin] Miller were married when he was 23- and she was 19-years old [sic]. They have in their household their Indiana-born children, 6-year-old Robert, 3-year 2 month old LeRoy E and 1-year-old Lewis R. The family is living in a rented house for which Anthony pays $6 a month rent. Anthony and Irene can read, write and speak English. None of the children have attended school. Anthony is a salesman for Ranley or Rawley Products and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military. Everyone's parents were born in Indiana. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Wabash, Adams, Indiana 40-year-old Indiana-born Anthony D Miller and his 36-year-old Indiana-born wife Irene E [McCaslin] Miller have in their household their Indiana-born children, 16-year-old Robert, 13-year-old Roy, 10-year-old Ray, 9-year-old Roland, 6-year-old Roger, 4-year-old Rex and 2-year-old Russell. The family is living in a rented house for which Anthony pays $12 a month rent. They were living in rural Jefferson County, Indiana in 1935. Anthony has completed one year of high school, Irene has completed three years of high school, Robert has completed year of high school, Roy has completed sixth grade, Ray has completed fourth grade, Roland has completed second grade, and Rex has attended school in the past year, but hasn't completed a grade. Rex and Russell haven't attended school. Anthony is employed as a truck driver for a creamery, has worked sixty hours in the past week and 48 weeks in the past year, earning $780. Irene is a housewife and Robert is a student. Neither has an outside job nor is looking for one. They have no additional source of income.
