In the 1915 Kansas State Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 52-year-old Illinois-born farmer O L [sic Orson] and his 42-year-old wife Indiana-born Cordy [sic] [Snodgrass] Sidebottom have in their household their Kansas-born children 18-year-old school teacher LIda, 16-year-old Felix, 12-year-old Lorin, 7-year-old Ira, 6-year-old Inez and 3-year-old Ralph. Felix, Lorin, Ira, Inez, and Ralph [sic] have attended school in the past year. Oscar is farming land he owns, free of mortgage. Orson came to Kansas from Iowa and Cordie from Indiana. Living one farm away are Cordie's parents, 74-year-old Indiana-born H C [Hugh] and 68-year-old Indiana-born L A [Lida Ann Gray] Snodgrass. Hugh owns the land he is farming, free of mortgage. Both Hugh and Lida came to Kansas from Indiana. In the 1920 US Federal Census for Ottawa Ward 2, Franklin, Kansas, 57-year-old Illinois-born retired farmer Orson L and his 49-year-old Indiana-born wife Cordie [Snodgrass] Sidebottom have in their household some of their Kansas-born children, 17-year-old Lorin, 14-year-old Ira, 11-year-old Corda [sic she was recorded as Inez in the 1910 and 1915 census] and 8-year-old Ralph.The family is living in a house that Orson owns, free of mortgage, at 516 South Poplar. Ira is doing wheat farming on rented land. Ira has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day and has not served in the military. Ira's and Lavonne's fathers were born in Iowa [sic] and their mothers in Indiana. And living next door to Ira and his family is his sister, 21-year-old Kansas-born Cordie I [Sidebottom] Guyer, her 22-year-old Nebraska-born husband Elmer E Guyer and their 3-month old Kansas-born son William E. Elmer and Cordie were married when he was 21- and she was 20-years old. Elmer is working for the Santa Fe Railroad in the signal service and has workd on the last regularly scheduled work day. Elmer's parents were born in Illinois, Cordie's father was born in Iowa [sic] and her mother in Indiana, William E's father was born in Nebraska and his mother in Kansas. In the 1940 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 28-year-old Kansas-born farmer Ralph S Sidebottom and his 29-year-old Kansas born wife Clara [Stull] Sidebottom have in their household Ralph's 78-year-old Illinois-born divorced father, O L Sidebottom. The family is living in a rented house for which Ralph pays $7 a month. The family was living in rural Ness County, Kansas on a farm in 1935. Ralph and Clara have completed one year of high school. Ralph has completed eighth grade. Ralph is the only one who as worked in the past year, 40 hours in the past week and 52 weeks in the past year. He does not earn a wage or salary, but has outside income. Living next door is Ralph's brother, 35-year-old Kansas-born farmer Ira B Sidebottom and Ira's wife 30-year-old Kansas-born Lavon [Stull] Sidebottom. They are renting a house for $6 a month and were living in this house on a farm in 1935. Ira has worked 40 hours in the last week and 52 weeks in the past year. He does not earn a wage or salary, but has outside income. Obituary-Ralph B. Sidebottom Brownell, Kans. --- Ralph B. Sidebottom, 88, died Feb. 2, 2000, at Grisell Memorial Long Term Care, Ransom. He was born Sept, 21, 1911, near Brownell, the son of Orson and Cordie Snodgrass Sidebottom. A resident of Brownell for 86 years, he was a farmer. He was a member of the Ness County Farm Bureau. On April 23, 1934, he married Clara M. Stull in Ness County. She died Oct. 2, 1978. Survivors include: a sister, Cordie Guyer, Selden; and many nephews and nieces.
