In the 1930 US Federal Census for Waring, Ness, Kansas, 50-year-old Illinois-born farmer Zedd [sic] L and his 47-year-old Indiana-born wife Myrtle P [Snodgrass] Barnett were married when Zed was 21- and Myrtle was 18-years old. They have in their household their Kansas-born children, 25-year-old grade school teacher Gertrude F [Fern], 20-year-old schoolgirl Lucille and 12-year-old schoolboy Marion E, Zed's Maryland-born [sic] 67-year-old widowed step-mother, Lena M [Elias] Barnett (who was married when she was 25-years old) and a boarder, 30-year-old Kansas-born lodger and farm laborer Charles M Hair. Zed is doing general farming on a rented farm. He and Gertrude have worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. Living on an adjacent farm, are Zedd and Myrtle's son 27-year-old Kansas-born wheat farmer Wayne O Barnett, his wife, Phyllis G [maiden name unknown] and their 3-month old Kansas-born son Lawrence W.
