Shared note
In the 1900 US Federal Census for Township 7, Creek Nation, Indian Territory, 32-year-old Indian Territory-born farmer Jennie [Tuttle] McCaslin is a widow with five children all born in Indian Territory. These children are 13-year-old Minnie M, 10-year-old Nettie, 8-year-old Myrtle, and 6-year-old Jessey [sic] McCaslin and 1-year-old Bellezoria [sic] McRay. Also in this household is boarder 42-year-old Maine-born widower Charley Jones who is a farm laborer and probably Jennie's hired hand. Jennie owns the land she is farming free of mortgage. Jennie and Charley have had no months out of work in the past year. Minnie, Nettie, and Myrtle have attended school five months of the past year. Jennie, Minnie, Nettie, Myrtle and Charley can read, write and speak English. Jennie's father was born in Kansas and her mother in Alabama, the children's fathers were born in Arkansas and their mother in Indian Territory, and Charley's parents were born in Maine. Jennie and her children's "tribe" is listed as Creek, her father and the children's fathers as American, and her mother and the children's mother as Creek. In the column for "Mixed Blood", Jennie's proportion of "white blood" is listed as one half, her children's as three quarters. Charley is non-Indian. Jennie is not taxed and she lives in a "fixed dwelling". In the 1910 US Federal Census for Jacobs, Hughes, Oklahoma, 49-year-old Iowa-born William Adelhelm and his 38-year-old Oklahoma-born wife Jinnie [sic] [Tuttle McCaslin] Adelhelm have been married nine years. This is a first marriage for him, but a second for her. Jennie has born eight children and all eight are living. The Oklahoma-born children living with them are three of theirs, 7-year-old Christen [sic], 5-year-old Charles, and 2-year-old Tina, and two of Jennie's children, 16-year-old Jesse [sic] McCaslin
