Shared note
Orlin Fay in "John Fay of Marlborough and his Decendants" says that Eleanora Fay and James Brown had three children. I have found only two, and of them, only Charles Lee survived to grow up. In the 1870 census for Brunswick, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, 35-year-old New York-born engineer J.H. [James Harding] Brown and his wife 27-year-old Massachusetts-born Ellen [Eleanora Fay] have in their household their two Wisconsin-born children, Charles (age 6) and Delia (born Aug 1869).
