In the 1880 US Federal Census for Heralds Prairie, White, Illinois, 33-year-old Indiana-born Michael and 28-year-old Indiana-born Florence A [Rhoads] Hockersmith have in their family their children, Indiana-born 10-year-old Luella, Indiana-born 8-year-old James M, Indiana-born 6-year-old Rosettie [sic], Indiana-born 5-year-old Lydia C and 1-year-old Illinois-born Ida M. In the 1910 US Federal Census for Duck Creek, Stoddard, Missouri, 40-year-old Illinois-born farm laborer William Ackley and his second wife 31-year-old Illinois-born Ida [Hockersmith] Ackley have been married for 16-years and have had seven children, five are living. These Illinois-born children are 13-year-old Ethel G, 10-year-old Elva M, 6-year-old Harvey, 4-year-old Martha F and 10-month old James M H. The family is living in a rented house. William, Ida, Ethel and Elva can read, write and speak English. Ethel, Elva and Harvey have attended school in the past year. William's father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Kentucky; Ida's parents were born in Indiana; the children's parents were born in Illinois.
