In the 1930 US Federal Census for Perry, Marion, Indiana, 42-year-old Indiana-born William W and his 40-year-old Indiana-born wife Bertha M [Carlyle] McCaslin were married when he was 19 years old and she was 17 years old. They have in their household their Indiana-born children, 22-year-old Ruth E, 5-year 7-month old Stanley, 4-year 3-month old Givinn [Gwinn] E, 2-year 7-month old William and 5-month old Treioclia [Trevelia], and Bertha's 68-year-old Indiana-born widowed mother Martha L [Demoss] Carlyle. The household is living on Emerson Avenue in a farm house that William owns. They have a radio. William, Bertha and Ruth can read, write and speak English. Martha is illiterate but can speak English. William is a crane operator for "steam railroad shops" and has worked on the last regularly scheduled work day. He has not served in the military.
